Allstate 4 cylinder into Henry J?
« on: March 18, 2016, 06:11:23 PM »
Hi, I am looking for info on if a Allstate 4 cylinder is a direct fit into a Henry J? I am not familiar with either of these cars, but am a Willys Jeep guy. Thought I had a jeep engine but the data tag says it is an Allstate. However has a CJ jeep oil pan and head on it. It is listed for sale in the parts forum.  Would like to see it go to someone with an Allstate or Henry J, if I knew what it would fit. Thanks for any help. Best wishes; Leo

It is a direct fit but what owners need to be aware of is some Henry Js/Allstates had Delco electrics and some had Autolite which means those components would have to be swapped / retained if the engine were to be replaced.  Most of it is not a big deal except for the starter - Autolite and Delco starters require a different bell housing and different wiring which makes a difference. If someone was just swapping the engine and kept the original generator, regulator, starter/bell housing it would work just fine.
