If it is a Manhattan that is a fairly scarce car and it has the rare hood ornament.  It is a '49 or '50 and the description says automatic trans which is doubtful.  Probably an overdrive.  Maybe worth looking at if you are in the area.

I've wanted one of these a long time. I "texted" him an offer and asked where he was in South Dakota.  I was just browsing CL.

The seller was not honest or work-able.  This car will stay put for the next 20 + years.  Too bad.  We agreed to $750 then he said, (son) that the hood ornament was worth $350 because there was one on ebay for that.  So the price went back up to $1000. Then he said "my dad will give me $1000 for it."  Then I said thanks and he texted 'yep yep' and raised the price to $1500.

Worst of craigs list right there.

Maybe when winter comes and the car is still sitting there he will find your offer fair after all.  Good luck and keep in touch with him.  If he really wants to sell it he will be more reasonable as some one has got him stirred up with bad information.  The chrome is decent and if it is not rusty it would make a nice car..
