'53 Kaiser window channels and fuzzy strips
« on: January 19, 2010, 04:55:47 PM »
The vertical U shaped window channels and the horizontal fuzzy strips need to be replaced.   Where can I get these?   To install will I have to take out the wind wing and the glass piece?   thanks

For the U channels and cats whiskers, call Restoration Specialty & Supply in Windber PA at 814-467-9842. They will have what you need. To do the job right, you will need to remove both pieces of glass.

I found the website for that vendor

http://www.restorationspecialties.com

Whow they have a million different parts in their catalog.   Anyone have the item#s a Kaiser Guy might be looking for?

Would they more likely be under Chrysler, GM or Ford??

Any help here would be appreciated!!

Daunting Catalog indeed!!  Looks like we have to get the measurements and buy long lengths, then cut to fit?  Anyone with experience on this please post!

I called them.   You can take your channels out and email him pictures with measurements or mail him your old ones.   They can't look up Kaisers.

OK, I dug out my RSS catalog and the part numbers that I used when ordering the items for my 54 were:
For the glass run channel (U shaped channel with fuzzy inside -mounts vertically and window slides up/down on it) - part # 8L, comes in 72" length
For the belt weatherstrip (cats whiskers) with stainless steel bead - part # YM3; without stainless steel bead - part #M8, both in 72 or 96" length
Clip that holds the belt weatherstrip in place on the inner window reveal - part # 2348. You'll need multiple, count your old ones. Take it from me, buy new, don't reuse old.
Staple that's used to hold the belt weatherstrip in place (attaches to stainless moldings) - part # 1999. Comes in a box of 100, should be more than enough to do the whole car.

While I'm at it:
For the Traveler/Vagabond rear hatch - rubber deck lid seal - part #4754.
For the 47-50K and 47-51F, the glass run channel part number is 5R

Hope this helps!
