A Tale of two Darrins
« on: October 16, 2016, 10:38:38 AM »
Barrett Jackson, Las Vegas is history and a sad day for Darrin owners.  Two Red Darrins went on the auction block.  Tammy Allen's Darrin, which she purchased in January, 2012 for 220K, sold for 115K  and the other went for 68K.   From what I could tell, all the prices were low throughout the auction on Saturday for a lot of cars.

I agree...prices were notably lower across the board. A very nice GTO Judge convertible - a $100K car a year or two ago struggled to bring $80K. On the flip side, the AMC Pacer used in the movie Wayne's World brought just over $30K.

Overall, it was definitely a buyer's auction.

Auction companies usually do not want you to put a reserve on your item basically because of the risk of not selling it. The money is made from the buyer and seller fees. There is a fee for putting a reserve on your item at Barrett-Jackson to ensure that they get something if the item does not sell. Of course if it sells, they still get the buyer and seller fees. If you absolutely have to sell your item, then a no reserve auction is the best route to go. My understanding with the Tammy Allen Darrin is she had a Family tragedy and decided to sell the majority of the collection that is in Colorado. Aside from the fact that she paid too much for the Darrin when she bought it, the high dollar bidders were not there for that auction.
