Green Colors on Dragons
« on: December 06, 2016, 10:06:53 PM »
I am travelling and away from my references.

Did 1953 Dragons have Dragon only paint colors or were all Dragon colors also available in the production line?

What shades of Green were available on the Dragons?

All Dragons was laquar Paint.
099 Frosted Holly Green & 098 Jade Tint.

099 Frosted Holly Green should be with trim 5312 White Boucher vinyl on Green Bambu (All Vinyl Interior).
Top padded with White Poplin-grained canvas.

098 Jade Tint should be with trim 5309 Green on Beige Laguna cloth on Green Bambu . Top padded Green Bambu.

Thanks G.B. !  I always seem to come up with questions away from home on business because I browse a bit in the motel room at night.   I know of a Holly Green Dragon for sale and as you indicated, it is an all vinyl car.  (Except for the roof covering?)

That sounds like a nice combination. I like Jade Green as well but my next step is to see what Holly Green looks like. Jade is pretty self explanatory.

Frosted Holly is a dark Green with Gold & Silver Metallic. Tropical Green also enamel was used on other Kaisers.
Jade Tint is a Lt Green Color non metallic used on Dragon as before mention Green Bambu Top, with Laguna cloth inserts.

White Poplin Top Padded is same pattern used on Lincoln MK III ,  early 70's Continental before  later Town Car name. Vinyl Top Folks call it Calvery Tweed. Hope spelled it right? White should be the Color, not Egg Shell like some Lincoln. Padding should be more in the middle between the seams on Dragon Padded tops.

Note: another All Vinyl Dragon is Ivory with Green Bambu, Lt. Green Boucle  inserts over Green Bambu Vinyl.

On Our Calendar January we have a Maroon Velvet Dragon with bleached Bambu. If anyone can tell them to please get in touch with Me would be a great help. I need the Color codes. It may be the only Maroon Dragon with All Vinyl Interior.

G.B.

I sat down last night at home with Last Onslaught out.  I located the section on Dragons and refreshed my memory.  Stardust Ivory built in all runs, Jade Green as well.  Chris - the Dragon you have a photo of is Jade Green I believe.  Althoough it looks "Mint" Green and I thought Jade Green was darker.

The seller of the Holly Green Dragon also has a Maroon one for sale.  In reding what Carleton Spencer did to make the Maroon Dragon, that also is impressive and probably hard to duplicate as a paint, without deep pockets BUT it must look phenomenal with the gold anodized KAISER DRAGON on the front fender.

Both of these colors are limited run colors in the Dragon build runs.  As we now know, Onyx was early run, and limited due to waves in the metal.  I know of 2 Onyx Dragons, one way over priced one on a Missouri project lot and one owned by a KFOCI member, maybe more.

What I find interesting is per the seller of the Holly Green car, only about 25 were made.  I don't know a lot about Dragons and I am subject to correction no problem - but - it would seem a majority of Dragons were either Jade Green or Stardust Ivory.

As much as 750 or more in these 2 colors?  Or am I wrong.  The Maroon Velvet Dragons would have been a bit tough to build in that Dragon specific color with metalflake and such (as described by Langworth in the book) so I can't see more than 50 of those being made.

I suppose someone has the exact breakout by color and I have just missed seeing it.

If'n I'm not mistaken, color 098 is correctly named Jade Tint, not Jade Green.   ;)

To be technically correct for that matter on the other colors, 096 is Onyx, 106 is Stardust Ivory, 099 is Frosted Holly Green, 107 is Maroon Velvet Metallic, and 097 is Stardust Ivory.

Not sure it really matters...except for the green of course!   8)

Mike,
Your correct . I get tired with small screen & typing.
Long distance when searching for Frosted Holly, I would say metallic or light Green.

Onyx is correct. Our Two Club Members that found the other Onyx Dragon I remember the caves in Mo. Don't know is someone got that one Yet. Also the Hirsch Onyx Dragon. Got to see it at National in TX. Both have Back Glass wiper. Still see Mo. in forum For Sale.
It's hard to keep up with the Dragons, don't know Who has Hirsch Dragon. I need Everone's input.
I Want to Thank Mr. Hagen for helping to keep updating the Dragon  list as We find them again.

On our Club calender Peter Brown has AV Maroon Dragon. 4 vehicles above January 2016. I may of got to see this one ? Want to know Paint & Trim numbers.
Best GB

What is the Paint Number on the firewall plate?  That will tell you and you won't have to keep making up various color names.  Also it will solve the riddle altogether so this trivial thread can end.

I do. I go back to Last Onslaught to keep correct on name & code number.
See if only one All Vinyl Maroon Dragon , don't know how it was labeled. Could be special order Paint 999 Trim 888 ?

GB, sorry, my question was meant to be posed to Chris not you.  I was asking Chris what his data plate said on his "pine tint green" Dragon.

My bad...I'll be clearer next time.

Good thing you clarified. I thought it was at least an interesting topic at a time when there was not much going on in General Discussion.    I thought about posting in the Dragons section but felt it would get more eyeballs up here in General.

I am hoping to make an offer today or tomorrow on a Dragon, one of the two this fellow has.  It would have been a no brainer if the choice was Holly or Stardust but the choices are 099 Frosted Holly Green or 107 Maroon Velvet.
