Willy's Cowl to Hood Seal
« on: September 02, 2016, 06:14:24 PM »
I saw some discussion in an old post about Willys hood to cowl seal.  Of course my hood was catching on cowl and actually caused damage.  I finally tired of having to put shims on top of the seal to prevent binding.  I had some Ford 8M 16070-A Anti squeak rubber from an earlier restoration, probably because it only came in a 15 ft. roll.  The ford application was for inner fenders to cowl seals, stapled to inner fenders.  Applied with contact cement.  I have yet to find a weatherstrip cement that actually works.  Anyone?   Seems to work fine and does not look incorrect except to a trained eye.

Have you found a cement that works yet?

The guy that painted my car has put quite a few back together. He recommends 3M 08008 Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, says the black color blends with the rubber and bonds well. I bought some for door & trunk gaskets but haven't applied any yet.

Hi;  I used that 3M product for the weather stripping on my 57 Ford Conv. doors and trunk with the parts off the car, I've had to reglue some areas several times.  Although it is probably the beat available.  Tom.
