Title: Speedometer pinion gear repair
Post by: Fid on February 03, 2017, 10:37:25 PM
I know some have asked about where to get the speedometer drive pinion which fastens to the speedo cable. I bought an aftermarket speedo cable years ago and due to not fitting properly it ground up my speedo gear.  Luckily I had a spare but I've seen them advertised at www.walcks4wd.com so I thought I'd try to get a replacement so I'd have  a spare again.  The ones sold by Walcks are the gear only but I saved my worn one and replaced just gear head on it.  A bit spendy but it works.  I removed the old gear using a center punch.  Pressed the new one on using a vice which allowed me to press it on till the gear head was flush with the end of the shaft. After that, I took a brass bushing and put it on the end and back in the vice and it worked great so if you have a worn gear there is a fix. You just need to know how many teeth and order the appropriate replacement from Walcks

That's a nice fix, thanks for posting.
I've bought from Walcks before, I like that he lists factory numbers with his parts.
