Hi I am trying to get my 54 Manhattan on the road and I'm have trouble with the front end shaking like it has a bad tire. I am missing the power steering pump pulley and i noticed when i had it in the air that the power steering cylinder is spongy. First question is with the power steering pump not working would that cause the problem? #2 if so does anyone out there have a pulley or a pump with a pulley for sale? #3 if not is there a way to make it manual steering and remove the cylinder?

let the experts speak but most early power steering systems were an add on hydraulic ram or two working together to assist the normal steering gearbox. Air in the ram will make for irregular resistance as you steer side to side. But shaking more likely something worn- center point link, loose tie rod end, or even loose wheel bearings.

So far everything looks OK as far as steering parts but without the pulley its hard to test it out
