Title: Spare tire
Post by: David Lemons on February 27, 2018, 09:01:34 PM
Does anyone have a picture or diagram of how the spare tire and jack are stored in the back of a 1951 Henry J with no trunk lid?

The spare tire on a Henry J or Allstate went into the storage compartment area along the inside driver side where the "trench" for the lower part of the tire would go.  The picture showing the fold-down rear seat back in a HJ with deck lid shows this spot.  As for the tools, they went in various places, I think reflecting where a dealer wanted to put the parts in many cases.  The other photo is one of a group taken by Willys-Overland for their competitive intelligence file that shows the spare in place on a non deck-lid HJ.

I certainly concur with this as I've never seen a good description of how the tools are stored in any KF publication, not even the Henry J Owner's Manuals. I know we discussed this topic on here before and the conclusion was "we really don't know how or where the jack/tools were stored as there has been no documentation found as of this time."

Just to add on, here's the illustration from the '54 Henry J Owner's Manual

It's an artist rendering but  it was based on an actual image none-the-less.

Here's a factory photo from KF Dealer News. Not much help either.
