Title: Kaiser-Frazer protective materials cans and bottles
Post by: Gordie on April 09, 2018, 06:12:57 PM
For those of us who collect the various polish and cleaners cans you may have noticed the nice chrome cleaner can that was offered on eBay this week.  I was surprised to see it bring almost $115.00.  A nice small general use oil can is on eBay this week also and there is still time to bid on it .  They are very difficult to find in good condition.  These regularly bring well over $100.00 at auction.  I will report the results at the end of this auction.  There are about twenty of these various bottles and cans that K-F offered through the dealers starting in 1946.  There was polish and cleaner, cleaner and wax, radiator stop leak, general use oil, fabric cleaner, radiator rust resistor, glass cleaner, chrome polish, spot remover, radiator flush, and white sidewall cleaner as well as Luster seal products, Miracle Power and chrome coating.  Most are difficult to find in nice condition  and they make an interesting display.

If you own one of the little general use K-F oil cans consider yourself fortunate as the example offered on eBay just brought $214.50 with eighteen bids.  If you did not start collecting these various cans and bottles years ago it would be difficult to try and get them all today.

It was difficult to get them in the midwest already in the 1980's & they don't get easier to find as time goes on.

There is presently a K-F Luster Seal haze cream bottle with a faded label on eBay for about $35.00.  Because it is blue glass it is a hard one to find.

As I think a lot of you know I love the  Kaiser materials and cans. From a show a couple of year ago a pretty cool picture. I am missing a couple and would love it if I could complete the whole set. Will pay very very well for those I am missing to finish this task.
thanks to the couple of people who really helped with my quest!

This one seems to be the most difficult for me to find in the gallon tin (I guess they made it but I have never seen it).. Any of you Kasier nuts have one?

They certainly did make the gallon size anti-freeze tins, here are a couple photos of mine.

I was delighted to pick up this K-F plastic Lustre Seal #1 bottle recently at an antique mall in the area. It was filthy when I got it but cleaned up like new. I don't live that far from Willow Run but I do not come across the cans or bottles. This is the only related item I have at this point.

Those are really cool. I do have the Kaiser Frazer glass bottle that's full, as well as a Studebaker Packard plastic full bottle as well. Does anyone know the history of Luster Seal? Was it a company that made at wax and would bottle and label them for manufactures? I recently bought 2 bottles that say Shell

Luster Seal was and is a high quality polish company that appeared in the late 1940's and is still in business today with many products available including concrete sealing materials.  Their polish was very popular and they did package it for many companies including Studebaker-Packard.  A stand-up flashing Kaiser-Frazer Luster Seal sign was available to K-F dealers that is 10x16 inches and has a metal edging with a glass sign in five colors.  Luster Seal was made to be used with a buffer and was first offered to K-F dealers in Accessory Bulletin 90 on October 8, 1948 with two types for buffing and Haze Cream to be used by hand application. By late 1950 A Luster-Seal folder and postcards were available to K-F dealers and in June of 1953 a final flyer was issued by K-F for the same Luster-Seal products.  Luster-Seal Haze-Cream was offered in 8 oz. blue glass bottles at first and the yellow plastic bottles appeared later. The glass bottle is dated 1948 on the bottom of the bottle. There are bottles for Luster Seal #l, Luster Seal #2 and the Haze Cream so there are several bottles to collect.
