I have a 1953 Henry J 4-cylinder that is leaking oil from what I think is the oil pressure gauge sending unit. The unit is located on the left side of the engine block, toward the rear. I've tightened it, but it's already tight but still leaking. Is that what this unit is? The shop manual was not helpful. Any ideas on where I can purchase a new one? Thanks!

OK, you could try thread sealer or Teflon tape? If you tried that already, accept my apology, I looked at Rock Auto and Willow Run and didn't find it. Kaiser Willys has one, part #800807, $27.99 + ship, your motor was supplied by Willys so a lot of the Jeep catalogs carry parts that will work.

I will give you a hint if you have to change it. Many of them have a terminal where the wire fastens by a nut on the stud. If you put the wire on the new unit first, before you install it, leave the nut loose so the wire will move, you can install it, tighten it in place, then tighten the nut on the wire. Makes it much easier than trying to get the wire on the terminal, then the nut on the terminal, then get the nut tight after it's been installed.

They're (the oil pressure sending unit) still available from NAPA. Part number Echlin OP6079. The NAPA one will not look like the original but it will work fine. It has a nut on it. If I remember correctly, the original one does too but the snap-on type that Corsair Deluxe posted will eliminate that problem. You will have to change the terminal on the wire though.

So I got the part, but now I cannot get the old one off! I've tried wrench after wrench. I've sprayed the bolt with every solution known. I've tapped it gently. I even sang to it! I bought a 1-1/16" 12-point socket, but it doesn't quite fit snugly enough around the old one, although it seems to fit well around the new one. Any tricks I haven't thought of?

Since it doesn't matter if you scar it, pipe wrench.

Thanks, everyone--the pipe wrench worked finally. Having a little trouble getting the U-shaped wire clip to slide over the end of the unit, but I'll keep at it--may have to slightly bend it open a bit.

nothing quite like wrenching on the old motors... glad you got it off!

I'm not sure about the K-F oil sender but the Ford senders as I recall in 70s -80s used a special socket, available from Snap On and yes two different sizes. Easy to damage new sender if correct socket not used.
