Title: HJK's Hawaiian Village Hotel
Post by: pjkaiser on May 06, 2018, 10:19:35 PM
From some of the descriptions I have read, HJK purchased a small piece of land on Waikiki Beach in 1956 and built it out 40 acres adding the Rainbow Towers in 1959.   He sold his interest  in the hotels either in 1961 or 1963 depending on what book is read.   There are now 6 hotels on site and there are 14 large Signs with pictures and descriptions giving history of the first hotel to the present.   There is quite a bit of information I hadn't read anywhere else, so if you visit Oahu, stop in and check it out.    His hotels are listed as Historic Landmarks!!!

I am still deciphering what was listed there on the wall of signs depicting their history.

Further east on the island, towards Diamond Head, sits Henry J Kaiser high school, further testament to his influence on the island.

The Hawaiian Village hotel complex is impressive indeed!

For anyone who's interested the old detective series HAWAIIAN EYE, the detectives had offices in the complex and almost all episodes had a stock footage clip (or more than one clip) showing the Kaiser Hawaiian Village complex signage.
