Here's a thread that's back to being car related.
This sure looks like "Stan's" Allstate

which was last seen in Minnesota (note Iowa license plate on this car)
I wonder if there are two Allstates that are this similar? I suppose it's possible. The seller claims his grandfather bought it new from the Sears Catalog in Colorado but the latest edition of the KFOC Handbook does not list Colorado as area where Sears sold these cars. He does state that it was delivered to Boulder so perhaps it wasn't purchased througha Colorado store.
I'm not accusing the seller of anything because the description sounds legitimate. I just wonder if there were two similar Allstates out there that are confusing some of us. This one was on the Minneapolis craigslist in May and at that time we discussed it and I was pretty certain it was Stan's car. Perhaps that is not the case.
I don't see a phone number but I would like to talk to the seller as it's a very interesting history if true.
A '53 six cylinder Allstate is a rare car to be sure. The picture of the tag adds legitimacy to the description that's for sure.

The seat covers and the right door panel are the same as on the "ALLSTEP"
Also the Voltage regulator is missing...changed to 12v.and neither have overdrive.
As for the rest of the claims.. I think this guy sold me a $14.00 Rolex.

My Allstate was purchased at the Sears store in Santa Barbara CA according to the original buyers Grandson. Although Sears only had a few retail stores in the South and Southwest that were franchised to sell the Allstate car the cars seemed to be available at other locations and no one seems to have exact information as to how they could be sold. I am sure that if customers wanted a Allstate car in a different location Sears would find a way to accommodate them. All Allstate's are scarce and original restorations are few but they are certainly attention getters at any car meet and we don't see them often at our KFOCI meets. Some are seen at car Museums and they are of interest to others than just Kaiser-Frazer owners. I think that they will hold their value just because of their rarity but rarity does not always create desireability.

I blew the engine on my first Henry J in1957. I was a 1953 4 cyl. In 1960 I drove a 1951 ,no O.D.,HJ 6 cyl., from El Paso to Ft.Worth (400 miles) ,pedal to the metal, there was no speed limit. Performed like a champ. I put about 30,000 more miles on it before I traded it in on a VW.

I am curious about the name Allstate as a Sears sub brand like Duehard I believe Allstate was associated with insurance but that does not seem correct. I am 55. So my history with Sears does not go back as far as others. Why did they (KF and Sears) decide to name the car Allstate and was there an ownership stake by Henry in Sears?

Sears used Allstate for years to designate anything they branded. Now days it's mostly associated with insurance but that was not the case 50 years ago.

When I was a kid one of my pals had an old Allstate moped that we pushed as much drove trying to start it.
Montgomery Ward similarly rebranded products. Some of their firearms were produced by Browning but sold under their "Westernfield" store brand. I think their motorcycle brand was "Riverside", don't know who actually made those but remember they were inexpensive.

This one is missing the black plastic from the hood ornament, the rear Allstate emblem and the correct wheel covers and the bumpers appear to have been painted with silver paint but if a good driver it should be a nice car. We will see what it brings.

A '53 Allstate would have clear plastic on the hood ornament, not black. Black was used on the early '52s, same as Henry J. The later Allstates have clear. The Allstate parts book lists the two different numbers:
Nose, Hood Ornament: 400016
Tail, Hood Ornament: 400017
Nose, Hood Ornament: 400072
Tail, Hood Ornament: 400073
The sheets I have don't list which is early '52, late '52/'53

The lower numbers are for 1952 model year cars; the higher numbers are for the 1953 models.

Thanks, I did not realize that the Allstate and Henry J hood ornaments were the same. My early 52 is black plastic and does not look anything like the brochures for '52-53 Allstate and '52 Henry J but like the '51 Henry J but with black plastic instead of clear. Wasn't it the early '52' Vagabonds that used black plastic? The regular '52's and newer had a different hood ornament. My Allstate is a very early one and may have had a Vagabond hood ornament installed as it has no holes in the dash for the Allstate emblem like the later cars had.

It's also my understanding (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the thread type is different on the Allstate ornaments so you can't simply replace it with a Kaiser or Henry J style.

I am sure this has been covered but on some the ALLSTATE is in the middle of the cylinder head on other engines it is further back. Is one the 6 cyl and the other the 4 cyl? Was the red lettering correct or an owner adjustment?

Originally it was orange lettering. Blue and orange were the Allstate colors.

The clear tip on the grey 53 came from my HJ parts pile and it fit so that one has the same threads.
