Title: CKD Jeep

This turned up on the Aero group page. Don't know if it's a reproduction or really surplus. After all the rumors decades ago of Jeeps & Harley Davidsons in crates, it's like seeing a unicorn.

It's a repop. A few years ago these were made available by a Philippine manufacturer by the name of MD Juan. They were shipped without a drivetrain...no engine and no front or rear suspension. Check the photo closely and you'll see there appears to be no suspension in the pictured Jeep.

This is close enogh to be correct.  The great majority of War Surplus Jeeps sold between 1946 and 1968 were "fully assembled" and usually in much deterioorated condition as the military tended to keep the CKD's because they were easier to ship (even by air) and store.

My father was a Navy pilot during WWII and we lived on the Naval Air Station at Corpus Christie Texas.  I remember one Saturday morning a crated Jeep was delivered to the parking lot by our quarters and a couple of guys unloaded it and in a few hours they had a new grey Jeep completed.  They were mostly assembled in those crates.  That was probably 1944.
