Title: Darrin Transmissions
Post by: Chris Luecht on September 18, 2019, 05:44:32 PM
I've noticed in the Darrin parts list a few references to parts for cars equipped with Standard Transmission and others equipped with Overdrive Transmission.  It was my understanding that all Darrins came equipped with the T-96 Borg Warner unit backed by the overdrive unit.  Can anyone shed some light on this subject, or do you know of any that came from the factory with only Standard Transmission?
Thanks,
Chris

I don't know if your parts list is from the factory or made by a Darrin owner.  Early Darrin literature stated that it was going to have an automatic transmission as an option.  You can't trust everything that is printed.

An early press announcement for the new Kaiser Darrin states on the bottom of the letter "A full complement of daring colors and optional wire wheels provide finishing touches to whet the appetite of the entire motoring public."  K-W trade letter #KW53-2 lists standard equipment on the Darrin as: landau folding top, overdrive transmission, directional signals, Solex shaded windshield, windshield wings, windshield washers, electric windshield wipers, white sidewall tires (5), side curtains, dual horns, tachometer, stainless steel wheel covers, exhaust deflector, bumper guards and cigar lighter.
