Title: Intermittent OD operation
Post by: Terry T on October 08, 2019, 06:52:12 AM
symptom: doesn't always go into OD on first try..sometimes after another lifting of gas pedal; sometime takes 3 tries
what are the suspected culprits?

1.  Sticky Kick-down switch
2.  Voltage issue due to bad or corroded connections at solenoid, kickdown switch or relay.  Also, check ground points for same condition.
3.  problem with the relay.

Based on my experiences over the years.  The fact that the overdrive work suggests to me that it is still functioning.  When one of mine went out, it was abrupt rather than intermintent to no function.

Almost always the relay. Clean the connections, especially the fuse contacts.

The OD in my car was acting up and cleaning the connections solved the problem.

Terry
First, try to down shift by turning off and on the ignition switch instead of the kicking down the pedal. If this works it is the kick down switch ,not the relay.

I am not talking about kickdown operation, but "up-shift" into OD
