Title: 1953: early or late?

Hi all,
My '53 Manhattan is missing its serial number plate in the door jamb.  Is there another way of knowing whether it's an early '53 or a late one?  I'm looking at getting the front end rebuilt and the early and late kits seem to be different - I don't know which one to get.
