Hi gang...pulled the steering box off my 54 Kaiser today to replace the seals as both the top and bottom (where the horn wire comes through) have been leaking since I bought the car. I have no idea why it is leaking at the horn wire exit hole...that's suppossed to be a solid tube to the top of the box. I took the bottom of it off and can't see anything wrong but will need to totally disassemble to fully investigate.
When I turn the sheering shaft, however, I'm feeling some grinding at the top center (when wheels are straight) that I never felt when in the car. I'll have to check that out too...shouldn't be like that. I bought one of the top seals from a club vendor but it seems rock hard. Wondering if there's a replacement number for it (again, this is a 54...NAPA, etc.?).
Finally, has anyone ever sent their box out to a third party for a rebuild? If so, anyone you can recommend? I might try and replace the parts myself (if I can find them) but a third party rebuilder sure seems tempting!
Advice? Opinions?

Mike,
This was posted quite a while back.
Mike are you aware of this company, they re-manufacture and rebuild steering boxes.
