Some of my fresh air vent controls are VERY stiff. Should I use grease, 3-in-1, something else? Is it possible to over lube them so that they won't stay in the right position?

One can never use too much lube to keep the controls working. I prefer PB Blaster to get things freed up then I wet a rag in WD40 and run that up and down the cable. It'll soak thru the casing and keep the cable lubed too.

Or, visit a Tractor Supply, bicycle or motorcycle shop and pick up some cable lube.

If your in a dusty location, if you can remove the cable from the housing, polish the cable with a 0000 steel wool and reinsert the cable and lubricate with the spray graphite. It is a bit messy while your doing it but it beats a seized up cable on an open duct on a cold day.

Okay, thanks for many suggestions. Good to know I can't overlube--I won't worry about it!
