Title: Another erroneous 'original' Henry J part on ebay
Post by: Fid on July 27, 2011, 02:11:04 PM
Beware of this one -

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/henry-j-ash-tray-original-very-rare-hard-find-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2312c3105cQQitemZ150638628956QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

It's definitely not an 'original Henry J ash tray.'  I'm not sure what it's for but it's not for a Henry J - at least an OEM which, in my mind, means it's not 'original.'

I can post photos of an original one if anyone wants to see one.

People have probably noticed a number of eBay ads that says 'fits _______'.  This includes things like 12 volt power radio antennas and the ashtray noted here.  The seller claims that people have switched their old cars over to 12 volt from 6 so the electrical items will fit.  Otherwise, they just figure it will work because the part is identified by installation instructions or the packaging as a "universal" item and to them it means fits everything.

Ebay now allows listers to select the vehicles they believe the item will fit. This has flooded the listing with all sorts of junk from floor mats to nuts and bolts and everything in between. Do a search for 'Willys Jeepster' and you'll see what I mean!

Someone must've tipped off the seller as they did change the ad to now read "fits Henry J."  Yesterday it said "original Henry J part."
