Title: THREE-WHEELED KAISER
Post by: Terry T on November 20, 2011, 07:53:33 AM
In latest issue of Hemmings Classic Car magazine, pg. 30, an old-timer (aren't we all), reminisces about seeing a Kaiser driving around town on 3 wheels.  A local dealer removed the right front wheel, tied up the suspension, and drove around to demonstrate how rigid the frame was!!!
...couldn't do that today.

I've attached a picture here (hope it shows up).  The car is a 1948 Kaiser, the lady is Mrs. Peck Nagel, salesperson on the floor at Motor Sales Of America, the former Muntz Motor Sales facility in Los Angles.  They are going to take the car around town with a 500 lb counterweight in the trunk to help maintain balance.

A number of Kaiser-Frazer dealers across the country did this kind of thing; some used the counterweight, others trusted to the weight of the driver and a passenger in the back seat.

Too bad the Citroen DS did it even better! (and with less "cheating")

Another cool thing about that photo is the car is a Kaiser Custom - a very rare model.
