Jim,
Thanks for this to for New members that don't have CD. Can You download it ?
If so if get updates this would be a way to get them to.
-
Download? Sure. On your Adobe Reader Tool Bar there should be an icon of a diskette. Click on it and it should allow you to download the file you are viewing. A couple of files would be fine but their are lots of files on the CD and that would take a long time and patience. Jack did such a great job on V4 of the Handbook I do not understand why new members can not be sent their own copy. CDs are cheap.

The CD in total has over 150 separate items covering in excess of 300MB. 2,000 copies were made in the summer of 2009; less than 1500 of them should have gone out to all REGULAR or LIFE members (associates do not get publications) with the fall 2009 QUARTERLY. The balance of the CD's (except for 10 file copies) were to go out in new member packets for REGULAR or LIFE members (again, associates do not get publications). For reasons never explained to me other than something like because they could, the membership at the 2010 National Convention voted NOT to provide copies of the CD to new members...nobody wants to tell me what the membership at that event decided to do with them.
In the event that they tossed them out, Version 4.1--the first updates to the original release--are finished and available for a new release. However, based on comments from people on the forum, nobody gives a darn so I may as well forget about it.

Jack, I don't remember bad comments about the Handbook. It is nicely done and filled with great info. I been ask to "not place current club publications on the website. As a rule off thumb, I would wait at least one year from date of publication before doing so.". So you should release Version 4.1 now so we can post it for general consumption next summer. Just my thoughts.

I know that when it came out, 99.9999999---% liked it; the others did not have computers which led to a special by-order hard copy version (at somewhere around $90.00 each and that was cost because of the number of pages).
It is up to the management of the club to allow release of the update. The intent was to release it somewhere around 2014, the point where it was estimated that we would have depleated the remaining 4.0 copies (new members, purchases, etc). I have no idea where this sits and frankly, it is not my business to be involved there.

Related to Handbook CD: I am a new member (July 2011) and I received a copy of the Handbook CD with my "Welcome package" including a couple back issues of the Quarterly. It is filled with great information, and Kaiserfrazerlibrary, I certainly appreciate it, and all the work that went into it. I look forward to the next version when its released!

I too very much appreciate the handbook and use it all the time.
