Title: OD Relay Testing?
Post by: mbflemingkf on September 16, 2012, 10:56:54 AM
Is there a way to "bench test" an OD relay to ensure its working properly?  I have an NOS one but want to test it before selling it to ensure it will work as intended.   ???   Thanks, Mike

Check your KF shop manual...any year and follow the directions to test. You can do this on a bench. I used page 311 of the 51 shop manual to troubleshoot the unit on my 50K and found the trouble (bad fuse connection).

If you have a 9 volt radio battery and a volt/ohm meter it's pretty easy. Touch the 9v battery terminals to the two terminals on the relay and see if it clicks. If it does click, connect the ohm meter/continuity tester to the other two terminals and click it again. The ohm meter should read 0 ohms or very close to it if the relay is working.

Thanks guys.  I have the later OD relay with the plug in on the bottom, 51-55.  I tried the 9 volt battery but wasn't sure where to put the contacts so tried them on all 4 terminals.  Didn't get a click.

Can that relay be taken apart and cleaned up?
