Title: Title history in Lincoln, Nebraska
Post by: 51HJ on December 05, 2012, 02:18:31 PM
I am in need of a club member that lives in Lincoln Nebraska to help me get some title history from the DMV. I have called many times and I'm told that the original dealership is in the history of this vehicle but I can't get a copy of it because of the "Privacy Act". I have all the owners since it was new in 1951 and only lack the dealerships name. I need someone that can go to the DMV with this serial number and see if it can be gotten. My direct email is hemi484@aol.com, phone is 405 840-4273 Thanks, Steve

I was just told by DMV the only way to get a copy of the dealership is by Law enforcement with a subpoena.

Corwin L. Hubert was the K-F dealer from 1951-1953 in Lincoln Nebraska.  He was also the distributor for the Lincoln NE sales territory.

A list of over 6,600 K-F and Willys dealers (total; some K-F also sold Willys at the same time) will be part of KFOCI HANDBOOK Version 5.0.

The state DMV is located in Lincoln, Nebraska. The car was not sold in Lincoln, therefore you are assuming. I would like to find exactly the dealership that sold this car, not a guess of  1 of 6600 dealership's. I've been trying for a long time without any luck.

Ok. I have bugged the DMV so many times that she gave me one piece of information.... the zip code of the town that sold the car new and it's Fairbury, Ne. 68352. But I don't show any dealers in that area.

See if the local library can do an ad search in the old newspapers. They might find an ad for the dealer. You might also try newspaperarchive.com to see if they have any local newspapers online.

I've checked with the local library in Fairbury but no luck  Can someone tell me the correct spelling for Corwin L. Hulbert or Hubert? If he was the Lincoln territory distributor would a salesman  from his company bring a new car out to the buyer? The previous owner of my car, remembers his uncle telling him that the Henry J was driven to the first owners business in Plymouth, Nebraska.
I would like to document all I can about this car and it would be nice to know if there was a dealer that is not listed on the handbook.

Some libraries have old city directories. These list all the businesses and residences in the city. The town hall may have them or know who does. I have a couple from my town and they sure are interesting.

The main newspaper in Lincoln Nebraska would have an ad it it dated around September 28th 1950 that announced the 1951 Henry J was now in dealer showrooms; this ad was placed by Kaiser-Frazer Sales Corporation in the top 400 newspapers across the country as well as cities where a K-F destributor existed.  These ads also listed the name and city of all the dealers in the distributor's territory.  If Fairbury was in the Lincoln NE sales territory it would be listed.

You can also check with the Nebraska auto dealers association or similar type organization.  They should have lists of all the new and used car dealerships in the state by year.

I have a photo copy of the original title for the 1948 Frazer which I purchased from the original owner back in '78. It was purchased new on 6/16/1948 at Nordstrom Motors in Tekamah, Nebraska. Which is quite a ways from Lincoln or Fairbury but it's one more you can add to your list Jim.

Also the 'Big' KF Dealer in Omaha, Nebraska was Monty  White who, Gale Sayers' (of Chicago Bears Fame) father worked for. I believe there is a mention of this in Sayers' book "I Am Third."  Monty White was a  long time car dealer in Omaha and sold many different makes over the years.

Didn't put this resurrected 6yr old thread together with the obit I saw posted 3 weeks ago.
Pneumonia is something that can be easily addressed just a little bit too late to do anything about other than getting your affairs in order. Had if for 3 weeks  before I went to the doc when I was in my late 40's, now I get every vaccine they offer me for it. Just got the newest version for old guys a couple weeks ago.
Looks like he was doing a great job on the J.
