Anyone know paint color of HJ steering wheel? Or maybe even paint #?
A friend is going to prep and paint it for me and he is going by paint store Saturday for another project. Want him to get the paint. pearl White something or other???

most call it "toilet bowl white"---same as for the Darrin
can't get whiter than that!

Some years back at a national , i believe Prescott Az. , a fellow gave a talk on the subject and he used Ford's Wimbelton White from the early 80's . I tried it on a HJ wheel and it did look good .

Good info, Thanks

Ford changed the name of that color over the years but it is a creamy white and not pure white. It's the same as 1965 Mustang Wimbleton white

Dave ,
I used refrigerator white spray epoxy.I suspended the steering wheel with a broomstick laterally through the center and slowly but constantly rotated the wheel while I sprayed. It was great and so durable.A word of warning once you start spraying you must continue until you are finished. You cannot allow any drying. Fresh spray on top of 15 min old spray and you are in trouble. The methylene chloride in the paint mix is the culprit. I would do it again just this way if I needed to recoat a steering wheel.
Getting the wheel off the steering column can be a bear.Be shure you understand how the horn switch works before you take it off.

kfnut, gordie: Rod Hughes claimed that the closest match he knew was indeed Ford Wimbleton White. Refrigerator white, Appliance white, Coca Cola white (actually these are all the same) are too bright.
Decades ago my family had 3 GM cars that were white. When I went to repaint 1 of them, I discovered that all were different hues.

A retired friend who likes to tinker stopped by the house last night to give my wife and I a wedding anniversary present. I gave him my Henry J steering wheel to see what he can do with the 2 cracks and paint. Wheel used to be mostly black with paint off of it. 4 coats ford Wimbledon white and 4 coats of clear, polished between coats, came out simply beautiful. Wife not amused with present, but I am very happy with it :)
