Title: Transmission swap?

I saw the post a few days ago about the available bell housing to connect a 226 engine to a "modern" hydramatic transmission.  Has anyone actually done this to a 54 Kaiser?  If so, what transmission(s) are recommended and what is the approximate cost.  I believe I have transmission problems that will require a rebuild and I want to consider all options. Thanks.

Lowell & Weaz...thanks for your posts.  However, I did save this information.  What I'm asking for though, is advice on what transmission(s) are recommended for use with our 226 engines and if, in fact, anyone has put a "modern" trans on and what the approximate cost would be.  I have no idea where to go to find a compatible transmission, but feel this may be better in the long run than rebuilding my 55 year old transmission.  Thoughts?

The adapter is for any common Chevy V8 auto. I think the TH400 might be the way to go. Basically an updated Hydramatic, fairly bomb-proof, non-computer controlled. They are infinitely adaptable to different uses, from cruising to off-road. I think the simplest way would be to call these guys and ask their opinion. I could be totally wrong, though. I'll bet they can shoot you towards the most cost effective modern swap. If they can't, you'll know who not to do business with.

I believe on their site they list a 350 turbo to go with it. We are hopefully going to install one of these kits on our 51 kaiser shop show car. We have dealt with these guys in the past and they are top notch!
