Title: Brake Drums
Post by: BigDave LM6174 on August 13, 2013, 01:29:41 AM
Anyone know where I can find some rear brake drums for my 52 Henry J.  Right rear brake drum appears to be warped and bent.

There are some parts cars on E Bay right now.

I think I have a n.o.s drum in the great black hole I call my garage. I't s 96 here now and even more in the garage.when it drops below critical mass, I'll check and let you know.

I turned over the pack rat mass that I call my parts collection and came up with a N.O.S HJ  brake drum which I will discuss with Big Dave off forum, but it sorta surprised me that it was already mounted on a rear hub.I was also surprised that the stud holes were empty. I guess they were easier to ship or maybe the studs were prone to damage. any thoughts?

I never saw a KF product that had studs on the brake drums. They all used bolts and a single guide pin to help align so you could start the bolts.
Typical KF hub here:

Lowell... after further inspection, you are absolutely correct. The drums are fine. It's me that is off. Should be a lesson to all that info from our more seasoned citizens, however well intended, is subject to examination.

Happens to the best of us Jim. I'm guilty too.
I do have to admit this ad is amusing:

A "lug nut for a '51 Kiaser Manhattan"  - we all know there were no '51 Kaiser Manhattans and now we know the '51 Kaiser did not have lug nuts either.

Yep, should be 5 bolts and pin.

Both of my 1947 Kaisers use studs/lug nuts and what makes it even more interesting, the driver side units are left hand thread.
