Looks like my block is toast! :'(
:o
Too much deep pitting/corrosion around the valves so no way they'll seat. Too deep to plane the block.
Any ideas on getting a good block or rebuit engine?
-
Do you mean the valve seats are pitted or is the block too pitted to take new valve seats? Put up a picture. It's nice to stick with the original block if you can.
-
Shop says the pitting is too deep around the valves to support new seats.

On overhead engines they mill out the seat area and then insert hardened inserts, would this not be a route to take? Henry.

I have seen it done to" bottom end mill "the area of the valve insert and install oversize valve inserts its costly but it is done the last time was using hardened seats from an different car manufacturer.

I'm sorry to hear this Mike. I hope you can find a solution as your '54 needs to be on the road. It's a beaut.
