They are standard headlights as required by the law in 1948. They were standardized in 1941, if memory serves. All cars used two round headlights of the sealed beam variety. Just look for 6 Volt positive ground (not sure if it matters which grounding is used) headlight bulbs and you'll get what you need. Also, there is a halogen headlight assembly available and I saw in the "Chevy's of the 40's" web site that they are around $43.00 for the complete assembly. They are non-sealed beam so you can carry a spare light bulb in your glove box, it you wanted. I would make sure your electrical system was in very good condition before you used those, though, with is a good idea anyway.

The general part number be it Westing House, GE , Sylvania, is 6006 ebay is usually full of them and O' rileys may have them. And, by the way, O'rileys stocks points and condenser for both the autolite and Delco distributors and they look like very good quality. Cheers! Bill

I hate buying by internets through the mail, I prefer to see and touch the parts in person whenever possible. Thanks for the info, billmod12!

I agree, that is exactly why I bought a set of spare points and cond from them. The arms were firm and straight and the spring felt right and the contacts lined up. Can't see that by mail!!
