-
Love to help but I think my springs are sagging
-
My cars are stored for the winter, 21 miles away in a shed surrounded by 10" of snow and it's -20 degrees here. Do you want to come up and measure it? I'll lend you one of my tape measures.
-
Thanks, at least I got some responce to my Question. No Fid I do not want you to go out in this weather. Is there not a measurement in the factory manual?
Henry.
-
hahahaha...too much!
-
I have 8 inches bottom of frame to top of axle...
-
Alohagreen, 8" - that's how much snow we got last night. Unfortunately it will be a while before my cars see the road again.

Thanks aloha. Henry

Eight inches is what I have on the Vagabond.
-
We lowered the empty body onto the frame yesterday and I measured 6" from the top of the axle tube to the bottom of the frame next to the rubber bump stop. Henry
-
well my car has NEVER been stored or parked NOT on its wheels,
so it has the FULL 63 years of SAG to the leaf springs.
and nothing special, no new shocks or shackles or new springs (still wrapped)
all STOCK.

Here is how mine sits with the empty body on it, Henry.

Here is how mine sits with the empty body on it, Henry.
The Vagabond rear wheel well measure 21-1/4" from the floor. The tire diameter is 25", with the stock wheels and P165-15 VW radials.

same same here 21inches and i just filled the gas tank today.
-
It was 70 degrees here today so I went out and got my '52 Henry J Vagabond home. I'll have a measure tomorrow or later in the week. Runs and drives great, just needs a good wash.
-
aloha.. I recently drove a 51 HJ that had coilover shocks on the rear. I ASSUME it was to correct sagging springs. The ride was great.Stiffer than a stock HJ,which in my opinion tends to wallow.
-
Corsairdeluxe....... i wish i had the MODERN today part number for those old
over the shock spring kits... spose i could internet search it.
i d use em ... mor for a looks (stance) than ride.... mine rides just fine.

when i take mine off i'll measure the extended / collapsed and cross them to a rear shock that has the overload coils on it from the factory... and i 'll post the part numbers with pricing.
-
I took this pic this morning, shows about 8" without the body on. Henry.
-
our 53 on a SIDE note whats the shock measure fully pulled open and collapsed?, if you get a chance to put a tape to it.
reason i ask is i MIGHT cross the shock over to the Monroe shocks that have coil springs already on them....
i don't want air shocks just a little boost to ride height .( 1 er 2 inches MAX )
i only asked cause your bottom bolt is off.. thought it ed be EASY to put a TAPE to....
closed and open measurements
-
Rear shocks min 11", max 17-1/2", center to center
-
The springs you add to the shocks are a pain. If you don't get the clamps just right the spring will rub the shock.
