Title: oil canister

hey guys i was wondering i drained the oil out of my crank case and when i took the filter cap off the canister is still full of oil,,,shouldnt it drain into the oil pan or do i have to drain it too,,,or could it be clogged,,,there was sludge in it but i put kerosene in it and ran it then drained it but the canister is full...any help will be greatly appreciated.

It's normal for the filter housing to stay full. The return line is usually near the top. Some housings have a pipe plug drain near the bottom. You can tell if the filter is flowing. The housing and lines will be hot to touch when the car is fully warmed up and running.

some had  an low drain plug MOST did not
 we just ALWAYS pull out the old filter and
soak wipe dipe clean  the HARD way.

The '48 Frazer I had had a plug in the bottom. Be sure to have a can or something to catch it when you take the plug out... if it has one.

thanks guys i was thinking that it should drain on its own,,,thanks for the help guys.
