I drove a thousand miles and spent the night ia Atlanta to look at this car. IT IS A TURD! Chrome parts painted with aluminum paint.Glasspack muffler.Blisterered knobs painted black to hide the crazing .It was thrown togather at the least possible cost. 8 volt system has to idle at 1,400 or so r.p.m to charge. It is so poorly done ,it is embarrasing.
Good ones are out there.Wait for one

If it's this one -

http://www.streetsideclassics.com/showcar.php/atl/1723/1953-Henry-J-Corsair

there has been much discussion of it on this site.
See this thread

That car has gone unsold on ebay more than once, likely due to the fact that it's over-priced. If it were a deluxe model, with overdrive, it may (and I emphasize MAY) fetch the asking price but a bare-bones base model with four and no overdrive is not going to bring that kind of cash.  You are wise for coming on here and consulting the experts.  I believe Corsairdeluxe has looked at it recently.

I got them down to 12,000 before I would go and look at it. I found so many poorly concealed problems it was scary! That was two months ago. You might be able to get it for less now, but you would be in for a lot of suprises!

There is a very interesting aloha Green ,1951 Henry J for sale at RitewayAuto in Phoenix. It has some not rare ,but seldom found feaatures. I have not seen the car. I think they are asking $9,500. If it is convienent I suggest you see this car. call Chuck @ 1-602-759-8809. If you like it and decide to go forth , let us know and we,ll guide you in what to check.

THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT,I HAVE NOT SEEN IT!

If you go to see it take a couple of shots of the engine so we can comment.Crawl under it and check for rust. Surface rust on the floor pan is normal, but check for holes or weakness with your finger.

If this Henry-J in Arizona on craigs list is in as good a shape as they claim then it's a good deal. The one I bought was an old junker that I rebuilt. I've about twice this asking price in it and it's still not finished.

Jim,  Thanks! checked out the green henry J @ Riteway Auto.  It is what I'm looking for (6CYL with O/D) but it needs a restoration. body parts don't line up older paint job needing to be redone bubbles on the rockers & front fenders.  It is a good candidate for restoration.  Asking price $11,500. worth probably 5-6,000.  I didn't bother to talk to anyone.   I found out along time ago it is cheaper to buy one done than to restore one unless you can do ALL the work yourself & enjoy it.
Thanks
Steve

Yes, there is something wrong with that grill. It's back way too far and it's too flat.  Someone did not install it right or there's parts missing and it can't be installed right.  There is a thread on here about the car.

for our previous discussion. If it's been for sale, it's likely been discussed here.

I bid on this car when it was at auction. I stopped at $5000.00. The car sold for $8200.00 including the auction fees. He took it home and did nothing to it but  wait a few months and then put it out on the street with an $11,500 price tag on it. It's been there at least 3 months. Not a bad car, but still way over priced in my opinion. Who knows what some people are willing to pay.
