just so i don't look stupid i want know how to pronounce "Puyallup" can someone help me
-
As a Washington Native I pronounce Puyallup as "Pew-allop".
-
All:
Last March 15, I went to the Puyallup, WA state fairgrounds (pronounced "Pew-yowl-up" not "Pull-you all-up") with an old college buddy to attend a swap meet. We didn't have much luck there. My friend had a couple of tickets to the Lemay Family Collection at the former Marymount School in nearby Spanaway, WA. ( http://www.lemaymarymount.org ). So we went. Mr. Lemay made his fortune in the garbage hauling business and yes he is the same person the new museum ( http://www.lemaymuseum.org/ ) in Tacoma is named after where KFOCI convention is being held. It is a long story, but after his death, Mr. Lemay gave a portion of his collection and funding to create a new separate independent car museum and organization, while the family kept the bulk of the collection. The Marymount site is absolutely amazing and the cars and grounds are shared with the community in a big way. A lot of locals prefer the family collection because camaraderie is tremendous. The volume of cars in various states of repair are stunning. Volunteers are everywhere, and there is plenty for everyone to do. I am told the Marymount site has maybe a third of the cars the family owns.
So why am I telling you all this? It is because they have an unrestored 1952 Aero Lark in their collection - see attached picture. If I remember right, I was told this car was purchased from the Harrah's collection as excessed inventory. The sign says that the car has an "134 ci, I-4, 75 bhp" which certainly isn't the case. Most likely this car has the 6cyl 75 hp L head engine. As you can see from the picture. this car is stored on big shelving stalls - like an oversized Costco. I am fairly certain they had a couple of Kaisers or Fraziers as well.
Anyhow, if you are headed to the KFOCI annual convention in Puyallup, this place will be well worth your time. Although I am not a member of KFCOI, I would be interested in meeting other Aero owners in June 22-27. I live in the SE corner of Washington state and it takes about 5 hours of driving to get to Puyallup.

Thanks for the heads up. We went through the LeMay Family Collection and did not see that vehicle. Which building was it in? Since that visit in April to LeMay we have purchased a 53 Aero Lark. Sounds like you will be able to help educate me on Aeros. We live in Yakima - half way to Puyallup for you. Why not bring an Aero to the National and show it off!
-
Jim:
My Willys is a '52 Aero Wing with a 161 ci F Head. I have had it for a long time and it is pretty much a project car. So it won't be going anywhere soon. I believe the color is Riviera Gray with a white top. I am interested in meeting other Aero owners to share notes etc. I want to get serious about getting this on into shape. Unfortunately, the vehicle ID tag and body tags are missing from my vehicle, but I do have the engine number title for this car. I have sent the Aeroman the particulars on this car.
The Lemay Aero was in the big barn like storage building with metal siding. Cars were everywhere in this building. Along the walls and back of this building were 3 floors of storage stalls. Some sort of llft was needed to place these cars in the upper stalls. The Willys was in the top tier on the West Wall. I believe the Kaiser I aw was also in this building, but on the ground floor in the middle.

At Marymount we saw this Kaiser Convertible in the "Gymnasium" of the old school.
and This Darrin right next to it.
-
jbailey, visit the website listed below for more info on your Aero. Also, have you registered iyt with the registry? Do that also when visiting the website.
I had a '52 Aero Wing that I loved dearly. Sold it before I left Los Angeles in 1990. It was a good running parts car and has been stripped and scrapped since then.

The LeMay collection was so vast, my digital camera ran out of charge before we were done.

The 2014 National has begun! Stay tuned for regular updates if we have time around all the excitement!!
-
Deb and I arrived yesterday afternoon . There were three cars here . Normally you see one or two on Saturday . Hoping for a good turnout .
-
Leaving San Francisco shortly...looking forward to a great week!
-
Barbara and I arrived at Seattle this afternoon and went to the kids house to unload the rental car. There was a HUGE back-up on southbound I-5 coming into downtown Seattle due to the closing of State Hy 99 in the northern part of the metro area & I-5 was the only working alternate for that volume. 99 should be open Monday AM for rush hour. Barbara and I will be down on Monday, don't know for certain on arrival time but we are staying overnight.
-
Great News Jack we will see you when you get here!
-
Just a thought - there ought to be a web cam for the folks who couldn't make it to the National........
-
Maybe you can do it in Gettysburg next year ... great idea.
-
Quick convention update - there are 32 cars on site and about 160 people attending. We've been to the LeMay family automobile collection, as far up Mt Rainier as a car can take you, and a few of us also attended a Rainiers minor league baseball game. So far, a great time was had by all!
-
Someone please post a LOT of photos for those of us who can't attend. Love to the the display area Jim has set up too....please :)
-
Hubcap display at the meet...

It's been many, many years since I spoke to Bill McKivor, but we talked on the phone for about two hours the other day. Seems he now owns a Willys Aero. He's headed up to the National (not with the Willys but in his tried and true '54 Kaiser early special 2-door) and is supposed to say hello to all for me.
-
Indeed he did. Here's a pic of his 54
-
Nice 54, great colors, keep the photos coming.
-
Hopefully, this will not be the only place to see convention photos and news - maybe we'll see a Quarterly get published again?
-
A Henry J appeared that is a 999 888 special order unit that was originally red white and blue. It was built for the Kaiser family for parades. Here's a pic...
-
A quick recap of the convention:
- There were 31 cars judged with a few more coming and going during the week. In the mix was the aforementioned special order 51J, a 51 Business Coupe, a 50 Frazer convertible, a 55 2dr Manhattan, and a 54 2dr Early Special.
- About 160 folks attended the Thursday evening banquet.
- Car museums were popular attractions, the attendees were treated to two different venues, both packed with some very interesting (including K-F and W) cars.
- Several of the constitution and by-laws proposals were approved. The next issue of the monthly news bulletin will detail which ones.
- The KFOCI museum proposal was approved. The museum will be housed at the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum, just a short drive from where K and F cars where assembled from 1946 thru 1953.
- A proposal to upgrade the club website was approved. The upgrade will include new membership pages which will allow those joining the club or renewing their membership to do so with greater ease. In addition, a members-only section will be created giving the club the flexibility of additional content that's not available online or in print today.
- A tradition repeated by the late Blanche Mericle to hold a farewell toast on Friday morning was held for the last time.
And, if you missed the convention, you missed pouring over a huge collection of service related literature, film strips, and advertising. It was quite impressive!
A huge thank you to everyone involved with making the convention a success!
-
Fantastic National if I do say so myself. The whole crew stepped forward to make it one to remember.
In Customer Reception Bob Dexter brought in the red and Blue Banners, Jim Betts Brought in the white one.
Gordie Chamberlin brought in a mass of collectibles for display one night. The factory photo below shows all three.
How cool is that! The all went home with Bob Jordan so they are back together again!
Looks like we displayed them backwards. :(
-
Well the 2014 National is in the books.
And now we need to document what happened.
This link is where we will be posting pictures and information online about the event.

Between Les Mommsen, Lee Abrahams and myself there were probably 1000 photos taken.
The best two or three hundred will be posted up on the link above.
Bear with us as we unpack and sort through the photos. The page now is in the process of being built so keep watching it.
Thanks to everyone that came and especially for all those who help make it a fun and memorable event.

Through the miracle of the internet, everyone was able to experience a lot of the National on the various Facebook and KF pages. Wish I could've been there, but great thanx to the gang in the PNW for a successful meet. Hope to see y'all back east next summer.

Hopefully, this will not be the only place to see convention photos and news - maybe we'll see a Quarterly get published again?
Be patient ;)
-
Web cam of the parking lot and Business Meeting? Great idea.
-
Carl Hering should be able to do that ...in Gettysburg. Wish I would have thought of it of 2014!!
-
Hi all
I will post the pics I took at the national as soon as I get back home. It was a great event.
