Are the front/ rear brake drums the same size? A fellow wants a front however I have removed all 4 off the hubs so do not know which ones are off the front, thanks for all your help, Henry.
-
The rear ones have the key slot. They are not interchangeable.
-
Thanks, however as I said I have removed the drums from all the hubs, so are the actual drums different???
-
They're two different part numbers but when you remove the hubs they could be the same. You've got them right there so it should be easy to tell. The shoes for the front and back are the same so I'd guess they were the same.

my '51 uses lug bolts on the front hubs and has studs with lug nuts on the rear.
Is this uncommon?

They all used bolts, not lug nuts so your's have been changed Terry. Probably a good thing as more types of wheels will fit and they're probably a lot easier to deal with. But originally, all used lug bolts. The ones on Edgar's J have been modified to use studs so the mag wheels could be installed. Whoever did it did a great job - that person even left the alignment pins on the hubs which fit nicely between the sculpturing on the back side of the spokes. The studs are a lot easier to work with than aligning that pin in the hole and wrestling to get the wheel lined up as you try to start the bolts.

I measured 3 drums and they all have the same center hole and the drums are about 9" dia. I bought screw in studs from Summit for the front of the HJ. Also have some for the back when I get the narrowed 12 bolt Chevy diff sorted out. Will re-drill for the 5 on 4.5" BC.
