Title: Wanted Darrin Gas Tank
Post by: KFDarrin#164 on September 02, 2014, 05:33:39 PM
Need to replace my the gas tank of Darrin.  Anyone with a good lead for this time. My assumption is that it is the same as the HJ.

So .. the one I have has a 1/2 inch of gunk in it.... has lots of pin holes (mostly in the top) that need to be brazed / plugged. The float sensor is in pretty rough shape and will probably no work.  So, given that I will probably not be taking the Darrin on any long trips, I am not all that concerned that I know how much gas is in the tank. Wouldn't it be cheaper just to fix the pin holes over buying a NOS or a HJ tank that may have just as many issues?

I mentioned this in another post, but there is a company called Gas Tank Renu that can work miracles with gunked and rusted tanks. The unit in my 54 HJ was a lost cause and they were able to repair the rust and recoat the tank. The work comes with a warranty as well. They don't have locations everywhere...but there may be one close to you.

Most all radiator shops here in Washington will not touch a gas tank for insurance reasons.  I have found one shop in Washington State that will help restore gas tanks.
