Title: Ignition switch 'stuck'
Post by: DaveF on October 10, 2014, 02:30:47 PM
Today when I started my 1952 Kaiser the switch remained in the 'start' position even though key retracted to 'on' position.  Had to disconnect battery to stop starter from spinning.  Tried turning key to all positions several times and 'rapped' on ignition body with a small hammer in hopes of perhaps un-sticking from start position...... No luck.  Any suggestions other than replacing switch?

The solenoid near the battery might be stuck.  Tap it and see if it releases. If it does you probably need a new solenoid.

Starter switch may be too tight or not straight in the dash hole.

If it stuck once, it will stick again so replace it. I saw this happen on a Dodge and the battery cables overheated
and caught the car on fire which froze the hood release cable and the car was destroyed.
