I recently acquired a 54 with a pretty bad oil leak which appears to come from the rear of the pan and not the rear main as I originally thought. Questions are do I have to drop the steering, raise the engine, or both to remove the pan? A friend has a nos cork gasket inthe kf box, is it safe to use after all these years or should I spend $40 for a new one? Anything else I should do while I'm in there. Thanks

I'd say find a new pan gasket before you drop the pan. The cork ones shrink over time so if it's NOS it's likely shrunk. The new ones are a different material and seal well, all the ones I've installed on my Henry J have. I never did one on a later Kaiser so I can't answer the question regarding how to drop the pan. Someone will come on here tell you that part. Good luck.

To properly remove an oil pan from a 226, you'll need to raise the engine just a bit to clear the steering components. You may also need to remove the oil pump float. Just drop the pan and reach in and pull the cotter pin that holds the float in place. That'll make getting the pan off alot easier. Having and arm hinged in three places helps too! (grin!)

I also have need for the following parts for my 1951 Kaiser with just 14.5 k miles.
Flexible fuel line @ fuel pump.Front@ rear shock absorbers. Master cylinder cap .
Front wheel grease seal. Outside mirrors. Two clips that hold the lower chrome on a four door deluxe.

For the shocks, the Gabriel part numbers are 82026 (front), 81318 (rear).
100221 was a part number used for at least two different backup light configurations. If yours looks like a 51K park light housing, then it fits the 51K. If it's a larger round light, then it fits the 49K. If it's a teardrop design, then it fits 52-5K.
Front wheel seal = 49640 Victor
For outside mirrors, look on ebay. You car would have used the type that clamp to the door post.
Regarding the molding clips, if you need the type that attach the molding to the doors or front fenders, the KF club sells them. They're $10 and you get enough to do the whole car. If you need the clips that hold the molding to the rear quarter extension, you'll need to hunt around. I think I found a suitable pair at NAPA.
And, I concur about the oil pan. Replace the gasket first...that'll probably solve the problem.

When using an NOS cork gasket you must soak it in water until it returns to the original configuration. raise the engine AFTER disconection the bottom radiator hose drag link and motor mounts also losted the rear motor mount so as not to damage it. While removing the bottom radiator hose check the anti collapse spring does it need to be replaced< many times it is the cause of overheating.

Kaiser parts interchange and sources catalogue has 1950 style door mount mirrors as used on my kaiser back then. they are concours chrome and are interchangeable left or right on the door or front fender, they cost $40.00 each see page 11 if you are restoring the car order the one hole mount as one screw mounts from the inside of the door , otherwise order the 2 hole mount style. I have installed a pair on my All vinyl green dragon and they are awesome.
