Title: Wiring Harness
Post by: lovejoyneil on September 29, 2009, 10:21:39 AM
Anyone know where I can get a new wiring harness for a '48?  Almost every wire running through the car was chewed through or broken off...

Rhode Island Wiring may have that.  I got by much cheaper just rewiring what needed it rather then the whole harness.  There "may" be an advertise in the newsletter that can supply these But I don't have a copy nearby.

I second Bob McBride. He's done several for me. Great work, and made to KF specs.

48 Frazers are still rather simple electrically. There aren't any special fittings or plugs. I would suggest getting a shop manual because it has a wiring diagram. Remove what you have and use it as a pattern to make a duplicate from plastic insulated wire.
If you bought a pre-made harness, you would still have to get it installed.

Mr McBride's harness came to me with numbers at the terminals, and he supplied instructions and some tricks to getting it back in the car.  I left my old one in place until I was ready to install the new one. Remember that they did this on an assembly line, so think how they might have done it then.  It had to be somewhat simple and fast to install. I got the main harness through the firewall then wired the motor area first, then moved under the dash.  It was easier than I ever imagined, but you do have to be careful.
