Title: Kaisers at cruise ins
Post by: joefrazer on June 13, 2015, 03:44:05 PM
Our local village holds a cruise in once a year where they block the main road and fill all adjacent lots with old cars. I usually have the only Kaiser and so far, this year is no exception. So, get your cars on the road and maybe you'll meet a new KF friend!

Several towns in my area do the same thing. They block of main street and make a day of it. The local downtown restaurants ran out of food the first year because they thought it would flop, but it caught on big time. Manchester CT has one that is over 1 1/2 miles of  cars side by side in the center of the street and parked diagonally along the sides of the same street. And like you, I am usually the only Kaiser Darrin attending.

In the suburbs around Detroit, there are as many as 15 venues per nite with cruise-ins.  Wednesday is the busiest.
I went to one last Thursday.  I was the only Kaiser and the only car!  Construction on the  main road and impending rain kept everyone away.
The largest is in Milford, home of GM Proving Grounds--many as 1,200 cars every Sunday.

Finally, there is the Woodward Dream Cruise every August--estimated 1,000,000 people and 40,000 cars!!!

There are about 2500 cars and 10,000 people here...quite a crowd!

By the way, that is one nice looking Manhattan you have there.

Around here, cruise ins seem to be populated by street rodders. Nothing against them (used to be one), but felt a bit out of place in my restored '51. Hopefully I'll find one with some other original cars.

Still a good way to get Kaisers more exposure.  :)

Here in Winston-Salem there is a big rat-rod/rock-a-billy event in early July. Mike Fleming took his Kaiser a couple of years ago, and went home with the top award. There were some restored cars, but mostly rat rods, traditional hot rods, etc. Obviously a lot of folks were exposed to Kaisers that day!

I am in Palatine, IL NW of Chicago there are car cruises every night of the week within 30 min of my house. When the weather is nice I go every night. It is fun fun fun. Lot of street rods and muscle cars but I get the most attention.
I brought my white Darrin.
