The distributor on my 51 wiggles I suspect the adapter is broken I have a spare but somewhere I recall the adapter is different for a 51 vs a 55 I found a part number for 51 but no luck finding a number for a 55 if they are different how does one sort them out? I also recall seeing one fixed with a washer against the housing body any one done this

Due to an engineering design flaw, 1951-55 Kaiser distributor mounting adapters have been known to crack on the "foot" of the casting. My car stuff is still packed up so I can't double check part numbers but I believe that the casting interchanges between these model years.
Jim Betts has complete parts list books up on the CircleKF website he has. I would suggest checking the part in the March 1953 release of the Kaiser Parts List Supplement to the Orange cover (illustrated) 1951 Kaiser parts list & also the Green cover 1954 non-illustrated Kaiser parts list to verify that the part numbers are the same.

Miles:
We really need to get some numbers recorded for the distributor adapters.
I know there is a significant difference between the Autolite and Delco parts in that if you use a Delco adapter with an Autolite distributor, the tabs on the bottom of the Autolite distributor will not engage the intermediate shaft which connects to the cam and oil pump.
The difference is perhaps slightly more than 1/8"
