Going to be getting my 226 rebuilt soon and I noticed something in the parts manual. There are 33 cylinder head bolts total on this engine. The parts manual states that 32 of the 33 are the same size (3/8"-16x29/32). But, there is one bolt listed that is apparently different than the rest but it does not give specs. on this bolt. It even takes a different size washer than the other 32. I did find one bolt that was slightly shorter than the rest on this engine but it kind of just looked like the end rusted away. Not to mention, I don't remember which hole it came out of. So, does anyone know how the bolt listed in the manual differs from the rest and just as important, where does it go on the head? Seems like this might be kind of important.

For cars with a heater, one of the head bolts has a small stud threaded in the top for the water distribution tube hold down tab. It may be missing on your car - replaced at some time in the past. Aside from the top of the bolt, it's otherwise the same as the other 32.

Ahhhhh!!! Of course! Mine does have that bolt. I was so focused on thinking that it was a matter of length that it never even crossed my mind that it might be talking about that one. Lol. Thanks for the clarity! :P

Is anyone supplying the bolt with the large tapped head? I am also in the midst of a rebuild and it would be nice to go back original.
