Looking at a 51 HJ and the NY registration list as K3008394. Would this be the engine number?

Where would the number be on the frame?

I was told it was under the steering box but did not see it on mine.

On the HJ frame if the number was stamped...and it didn't always happen, it would be near the passenger side shock tower. I found mine near the brake line/hose retainer tab.

According the 1955 edition of Motors Manual, the 1951 Henry J engine numbers begin with 3000001 so it refers to the 8,394th  six cylinder Henry J engine produced. The engine number is stamped on the passenger side top front of the block and it should also be printed on the tag on the same side of the engine.
