(Except in the State of Texas)  :D

Are you really going to get one of these up every day?
I like the idea. Fun.

I have the one page installation instruction for this Sunvisor. It is hard to read, but it is the best I have. I had gotten the copy from someone and I can't remember who.

Bob and Jill Jordan have this on their nice 1949 Kaiser Vagabond.

Do you have a color copy of the ad/release for the 100146 Sunvisor?

Best,

Mark

I don't seem to have that one.  I found another visor but it is an earlier one.  Do you happen to have the Bulletin No. for the one you requested.  As my books of these are sorted in Bulletin  # Order.

I have a lot of the broadsides including the 100154 Sun Visor (shows a 1951 Kaiser to demonstrate the installation) but no way to post any pictures.

Over the weekend I built an index of the Parts & Accessory Bulletins in the collection.
It is in MS Excel.  If you see one you would like posted sooner rather than later let me know.
http://www.circlekf.com/kfcars/accessory/Accessory%20Bulletin%20Index.xls (http://www.circlekf.com/kfcars/accessory/Accessory%20Bulletin%20Index.xls)
In this process it appears I am missing the following Bulletins:
1, 108, 109, 5-A, 8-A, 43-A, 44-A, 49-A, 50-A, 52-A, 53-A, 7-B, 13-B, 14-B, 16-B, 17-B, 18-B, 21-B and 22-B.
It is possible some of these were cancelled.
If anyone has any of these or has documentation that they were cancelled I would really like to know.  THANX  Jim

The pages you show here are what Kaiser-Frazer Sales Corporation called broadsides.  They could be put in a frame for counter display or as minor showroom decoration to promote some of the accessory items available for your new K-F car (or to add to the one you already owned, if applicable).   I will send you a few to your e-mail address.

I have acquired several Parts & Accessory Bulletin Indexes, but may of the bulletins are shown as CANCELLED.  If you have indexes printed in 1947, 1948, 1950, 1951 or 1954 I would appreciate copies of them to help assemble a complete index.  Les Rohlfs of Illinois and Gary Gundmunson of Montana and Jack Mueller all have shared bulletins and indexes to assist in this little project, thanks, thanks, thanks to them.

If someone is looking for the KF P/N 100257 Spare Tire, Valve Extension they might want to look at the below listing on ebay. In the past 5 years I have never seen a listing under Kaiser-Frazer, but I have seen it listed under Mopar. The average winning bid is around $100.00 in the past.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1940s-1950s-Mopar-Spare-Tire-Valve-Extension-Plymouth_W0QQitemZ180487333219QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2a05e22563

This is a cool accessory for a Henry J without a Deck Lid. It can be used on a Henry J with a Deck Lid as well.

Best,

Mark

I have two of them.  A neat thing is to install one, and when on the road, pull into a gas station and make sure the tire is at proper pressure (hopefully, you may need a bit of air).  As the cars draw attention, you can tell the crowd "Good for another 150 miles or so...this compressed air engine is great!"

What is the overall lenghts of the Kaiser-Frazer ones you have? I like to compare it with the Mopar ones to see if they are the same. Thanks in advance!

The actual Parts & Accessory bulletin gives no information on length and mine are in storage down in the basement of the house in KY; all my parts are down there.

Best guess from the picture (and assuming the picture is of the MOPAR version) is that both the K-F and Chrysler accessory are the same.

I was thinking would it be possible to make psuede KF Wire Wheel Covers by taking a 15" Chrysler LeBaron '79-81 Wire Wheel Covers* and adding (bonding) a Chrysler Imperial Style Wire Cap** on it?

I would think you may need to adjust the clips that hold the cover to the rim to make this work.

* Source: http://www.hubcaps.org/lebaron.html   $75.00 each

**Source: http://store.cokertire.com/chrysler-imperial-wire-knockoff-cap.html   $40.00 each

I like to hear anyones thoughts on this idea!

Although these wire spoke hub caps were a genuine K-F accessory they were made to be sold for other cars too and you see them from time to time on eBay or at swap meets.  Keep looking and you will run across them.  Although they will fit all K-F cars they are only proper for 1953 and newer.
Title: Re: Kaiser-Frazer Accessory of the Day
Post by: pnw_oldmags on April 06, 2010, 06:10:58 PM
The Parts & Accessory Bulleting says "May be attached to all 1951-52 and '53 Kaiser and Henry J Models".

Why would you say they are only proper on 1953 or newer?
Title: Re: Kaiser-Frazer Accessory of the Day
Post by: Gordie on April 06, 2010, 08:15:41 PM
Because they were not made until 1953.  They are not correct for anything earlier just like Continental kits are not correct for 1951 Kaisers even though the brochure said they will fit 1951.  You can put anything you want on your car but expect to be dinged when it comes to authenticity and judging.  Other examples are 1949 hood ornaments on earlier cars even though the factory and parts department sold them for the earlier cars and two toning 1951 cars other than Dragon equipped cars is not correct and  not done by the factory.  If in doubt use the date the accessory was released or changed as a safe date for installing them on your car.  This is important only for judging.
Title: Re: Kaiser-Frazer Accessory of the Day
Post by: pnw_oldmags on April 06, 2010, 08:32:55 PM
If these accessories were installed at the factory - I might agree with you.  But, as Kaiser supplied them to dealers for after-the-sale installation - I think they are perfectly fine for for 1951 Kaisers or 1951 Henry Js.  What do others think??
Title: Re: Kaiser-Frazer Accessory of the Day
Post by: AZ_HJ on April 06, 2010, 08:42:30 PM
I thought the current judging standards require that you do not judge KF accessories! You would not gain or loose points for any KF accessories. I would think that would include all KF accessories that were available at the time your car was produce and any offered there after (retrofit). If I understand it correctly you could only be judge points off for Non-KF Items, including non-KF accessories.

Please note that I am a KF accessory GEEK and work very hard to find and restore all the KF approved accessories that I can for my 1952 Henry J Vagabond Deluxe.

Best,

Mark

I am also going to implement Kaiser-Frazer Service Bulletin No. 333 Dated May 29, 1952, Body, Hinge Pillar Weatherstrip and Scuff Plates, Models; Henry J K513, K-514, K-523, and K-524. This bulletin provides information to permit the installation of new door hinge pillar weatherstripping and scuff plates on earlier Henry Js.

KF P/N 213497 Scuff Plate, RH     K-513 K-514 and Vagabond K-523 and K-524     1 ea req'd
KF P/N 213498 Scuff Plate, LH     K-513 K-514 and Vagabond K-523 and K-524     1 ea req'd

I understand that is not an accessory but implementation of a service bulletin. Since my car is a Henry J Vagabond I assume that it would be possible it was on the dealer floor when this service bulletin was issued. That as an assumtion, I could also put forward that the first owner could have had the dealer do this work at time of purchase.

I've seen a famous 1951 Henry J, which always gets gold at the national, and it has the scuff plates which were not available until the 1952 Corsairs were introduced. They were a standard feature from then on.  Service bulletin 323 lists all the new features for the 1952 models (Not including the 1952 Vagabonds which were left over 1951s) and among them are door scuff plates and glove box, two features which no 1951 Js had originally.  Then service bulletin 333 announced the retrofit kit for installing the scuff plates in the 1951 and 1952 Vagabond models so they would be correct. My '52 Vagabond had some Buick Special aluminum scuff plates installed in it when I got it. I removed them but unfortunately, whoever installed them did so with screws so the screw holes were visible.  The only choice I had was to install the rubber scuff plates, which look very good and seal very nice.

Saw the note on judging...

Forget about not judging KF accessories.  If accessories were ignored in judging, the results should be considered suspect and may have to be thrown out.  Early on, the club implemented a 5 point deduction for each accessory items NOT correct for car model year, based on when the item was released to dealers.  This was a Fred Walker pronouncement that as far as I know never got overturned.  Five point deduct for each wrong item could significantly affect the outcome.

That said, a very good point is made about retrofits (like the wheel covers where the factory bulletin on it says they work on 1951 and 1952 model year Kaiser and Henry J).  This is one of the many questions that will need to be resolved before the written standards go into final form.  Also it is to be noted that the last 1951 Kaiser-Frazer Accessory Price List includes a continental tire kit for a 1951 Kaiser as well as for a 1951 HJ.  It also lists the Air Circulator for the package shelf...this is worth noting as the actual bulletin came out during the 1952 model year.

That's why I suggest people make books about their cars to cover these little things that can be problems on the judging field.

Yes, the Continental Kit package accessory was available for the 1951 Henry J before the 1952 Vagabond models were introduced. KF Parts and Accessories Bulletin No. 56-A, dated October 12, 1951 announces the new accessory, part number 100282.
The full version of the 1951 1952 1953 Shop Manual also states on page 210 "A continental spare tire mount is available for Henry J's and can be installed after delivery by carefully following the directions with the parts kit..."

If someone is looking for the KF P/N 100300 Spotlight Mirror they might want to look at the below listing on ebay. This is a Mopar item, but it is the same that Kaiser-Frazer had. Unity USA produced them, but they no longer have them. This listing has it at Buy-it-Now at $106.00 plus $12.00 shipping. That is on the very high side of how much these have sold in the past. I think I paid on average of $75.00 for the ones I have.

This will fit on both the large and small spotlights. I have the installation and drill template for them if anyone needs them.

Best,

Mark

I just pulled my binder of P&A bulletins...56-A says NOTHING about Continental kits for Kaisers, only HJ.  The Dealer Accessory price list dated 11/26/51 also lists only the Henry J.  First listing of a kit for the 1951 Kaiser is the accessory price list dated 5/1/52, which shows it for 1951 Kaiser or 1952 Kaiser Virginian only under p/n 100298.  So far as I know, there was no General Memo or P&A Bulletin to dealers announcing the Kaiser version of the kit.

A company called "Newhouse" made kits for several makes in the '50s, including Kaisers. Were the KF kits supplied by Newhouse?

Fid,

I did some research on Newhouse Automotive Industries. The earliest information I have found on them is from1952 and the latest is 1966. They appear to have been just a distributor of automotive items. So I do not think Newhouse was the supplier to Kaiser-Frazer. I would think that Kaiser-Frazer would have gone directly to the manufacturer (OEM). Note: Ernie Newhouse was the owner of Newhouse Automotive Industries.

You are correct that 4-B was an earlier mention than the listing in the Price list but the date on 4-B is January 22, 1952 or well after the 1952 model year got started.  Also, going back earlier than that, the Confidential Bulletin that announced the 1952 Kaiser Virginian models (released in December 1951) lists it as a factory installed option on 1952 Kaiser Virginians.

The bulletin itself states that it is a retrofit item for 1951 Kaisers as well (and will fit just as it should on those cars).  You will find Bulletin 4-B among the items in the KFOCI HANDBOOK VERSION 4.0 section on 1951-1952 Kaiser Virginian accessories (one of the last pages in the .pdf file).

Also, if you check the back side of the KFOCI JUDGING SHEET, you will find a deduction spot for "Miscellaneous Non K-F & Incorrect Components".  According to the Fred Walker judging "schools" in 1975, 1976 and 1980 (that I attended), Incorrect Components includes Kaiser-Frazer factory accessories NOT made available to dealers during the model year the car was built.  Again, this kind of thing is a point to be addressed during the work up of the written judging standards.

If some one is looking to add windshield washers to there Henry J here is a listing on eBay they may want to check out.

These are the correct (NOS) washer nozzels that was used on the Henry J. The starting bid is only $16.95...they could go as high as $75.00.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/45-46-47-48-49-Chevy-Buick-Olds-GM-Washer-Nozzles-NOS-/190400197326?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c54bc72ce

The installation instructions for the KF P/N 100105 Windshield washer can be found at this web address:

Hi,

The ENCLOSURE item showing the 1953 Kaiser in with the 1951 P&A Bulletin on the Sav-A-Battery Filler Caps is actually supposed to go with the June 25, 1953 memo to dealers about the product and mentioning that the March 1953 Service Poster in the K-F "Hottest Brand Going" service program promotes the accessory.  There was no updated Bulletin actually issued at this time, but the memo notes the new broadside.

Several of the Parts and Accessory Bulletins have enclosures that I did not post.  These enclosures list ignition and Door Key Numbers and Key Cutting Information.  Would these enclosures help people restoring cars or would they comprise our the security of our cars??

The only way this would be a problem is if someone knew the "KF" number that went along with a particular car's keys.
