They originally quoted me $1,200 to plate everything on the front of the car.  My car came with a heavy tow bar that was included in that price and I have decided not to put it back on the car.  I also added in the truck trim and the rear bumper so I am not sure the exact amount it will end up being.  Once I drop it off in Atlanta on Thursday I'll have a better idea and will let you know.  I have used these people before on my 64 Ford and was pleased with their work.  They plated everything on it about 5 years ago and so far no issues.

I believe those grill bars and headlight rims are actually stainless steel. If that's the case, they can't be replated and that will save you some $$.  Perhaps they can polish those parts.
Joe Frazer, chime in if that's the case as I do believe  there is some stainless among these parts but I can't swear to it. I know the head light rims are for sure.

Fid the grill bars are not clearly not stainless, the headlight rings are and to your point will not be plated.  They are actually in good shape.

Unfortunately, the headlight rings are the only stainless items up front. Everything else is either stamped steel or die cast pot metal...which will drive up plating costs. Just be thankful it's not a 58 Buick grille!

or a 47 Lincoln.  A buddy of my spent 10K on replating a 47 Lincoln.  Fortunately there is nothing to plate on the sides of the car and very little across the back.  My tail lights are in good shape. My door handles need plating but figured I might get lucky and pick up a set in good condition.

49-50K door handles seem to pop up on ebay quite often. I just bought a pair of very nice handles for my Traveler and spent less than 40 bucks including shipping.

Joe,

I may have 1 or 2 good handles I would sell to you cheap. Let me look in my stash.

Wow, that's interesting. I've never seen a pitted or rusty '49 / '50 Kaiser grill so I assumed they were stainless. I guess not!  Some Henry J hub caps are stainless and some are chrome and all with the same part number so maybe the grills were too but I doubt it. If you have one and it's chrome, they're likely all chrome.

My parts car is in the same condition as the driver car.  The bottom grill plate is the only one that is rusted through and it is the same on both cars.  All are very dull.  I wonder if the word Kaiser that is stamped in is supposed to be painted in?  And the Kasier plate with the buffalo, is it supposed to be painted in as well?

The grille stamping is unpainted but the hood emblem is finished. The field behind the buffalo should be a semi gloss black while the field behind the K should be a glossier dark green. Attached is a pic of my Traveler...the green on the emblem is one shade too light.

What type of paint do you use for the green and black on the buffalo emblem? Mine needs a little work.

I used Testors model car paint. Not very high tech but it's held up well.

I use tester as well but I thin it down quite a bit with thinner and then 'flow' it into the places that need it.   I take a coffee stir straw and dip it into the thinned down paint and then place my finger on the back of the straw. I then pull the straw out and paint is held in the straw as long as my finger is on the back of the straw. I then place the tip of the straw where I want the paint and take my finger off the end. The paint then flows out of the straw. It flows to all the edges of the cavity. This technique avoids brush stroke and it looks quite even. I must note that the item you are coloring must be level and the cavity must be position up. Let the paint dry for a few hours, then you can go back with a tooth pick and or clean cotton cloth and rub out any places where paint got to where you did not want it to be. It will take much longer for this to fully dry since you will have a lot of thinner that need to evaporate. I give it about 2 days before I move it just to make sure it is hard and will not get scratched or messed up by something hitting the soft paint.

That's funny. I've been building model cars since I was a kid. Now I'm building them with my son, so I have the paints.

They told me they were 8 weeks out. The car is currently being painted so I'm not in a big hurry. The entire front and rear is being plated.

Here is the "before" photo of all of the trim pieces I had re-plated for my 1949 Kaiser.  I had posted this photo before but somehow it does not show up anymore.

Just got the call today that all are ready for me to pick up.  Unfortunately I am out of town and probably will not get the chance to get to it until late next week.  I am excited to see what it looks like; and more excited to get it back on the car.  I'll post photos when I get it back.

Thanks for the photos.  That has always been a dream of mine to have everything on a K-F Vehicle re-plated.  How cool to put all this back on your car!!  Congrats.  Did it end up in the Range of $3K... $4K or more??

3k on the nose. My right side blinker cage was not able to be plated so I bought one from Rudy and had it plated. I had a spare driver side one but they are not interchangeable.

I'd like to go to a meet with the car. It should be compete and back on the road by mid August. I'm going to try to go.

Well here is the progress I made today. The bolts that run through the bumper guards must be longer than the regular bumper bolts. Does anyone know where I could get 5 of them at?  The head is oblong like an almond.

Wow, That is looking really great.

Back in 1989, I was like a kid on Christmas Day when I got all the chrome back for my 51, including the Stainless.  I ttook me 3 days to carefully put it all on the car.  That was soo much fun to see the car come together after 2 years apart.

When I bought mine a year ago I told my wife all I was going to do was drive it. Then came the white walls, then cleaning it out underneath and then it bothered me that it was tan and not Caribbean Coral. All that happened in about the first week of owning it.

I move pretty fast but the chrome was deadly slow as has been the paint job. I've got a guy hanging a headliner in it now. Found where I could buy one but they did not have the right color. I hunted down the material both for the head liner and wind lace and sent to the company. They used my material but charged me the same. Once he is out of the way I'll put the new insides in. Shooting for mid August.

I'm missing one bolt that is long and goes through the bumper guard. If anyone has one plies elect me know.
