Why do some refer to their Dragons as "All Vinyl" like it is a difference maker? Were some Dragons "partial vinyl"? What is meant by "All Vinyl"? Posters go out their way to put it in their descriptions, sign ons and titles so it must be relevant. Thanks

An ALL VINYL dragon has seats with inserts of vinyl and not cloth. The pix tell the story...the first picture is an all vinyl car.
-
I ran across an all vinyl 53 J in California 25 years go. Headliner, windlace ,wire on ,seats and panels. Tried to buy it but missed out. I took a few photos. Will try to locate.
-
Was it all red??
-
It was either red or coral .I have some pictures of it.
Does not show much, but you can see that the wireon and windlace are Gator vinal.
-
Not the same thing as a 1953 KAISER DRAGON with all vinyl. There is reference made to the type in the Dragon item in KFOCI HANDBOOK. Instead of the laguna cloth with swirl pattern, it has a coordinated vinyl material that is NOT multi-pleated.
-
There was a 1953 all vinyl Dragon at the 2013 fall Auburn, IN auctions. I did not stay to see it go through but I took a few pics (attached). It was in a tent with poor lighting so I did not photograph the interior but you can see it through the windshield when I photographed the information tag. As you can see this was all green vinyl but the inserts were of the small roll pleat style and not the flat vinyl that Jack mentions. Also this car had a painted roof rather than the vinyl roof. Any ideas if this example was likely a factory true version, Jack?
-
You want a depressing fact, that car got the seller about $8,000 after sales fee. Now that in my mind is a good deal.
Of course if we don't keep sharing our cars with the public even Dragons won't be worth a thing.

Here's a better look at an all-vinyl Dragon...

Love the all vinyls, love the Laguna cloth too--you can't go wrong with a Dragon!
-
Nope...not an all-vinyl car. The pictured car has cloth seat inserts...the all vinyl cars had vinyl inserts.
-
this AV was at puyallup meet
-
I have never seen that white vinyl for the seat inserts. Do you know what the trim numbers on this car are?
-
Trim # 5312 as stated in 1953 Kaiser Dragon data sheet C-58-b in the club handbook. white Boucle on Green Bambou Vinyl with white Poplin top. The Door arm rests are the original that came with the car and are installed with NO reworking, the SMS repro. material is a dead on color match. One mistake i made was trying to buy( excelent used material) from club members ,as it turned out after spending $1500.00+ none of the material was useable to suit my taste. YESS THAT WAS MY CAR , ONLY HAD THAT MUCH OF THE UPHOLSTERY DONE, DURING THE MEET A GROUP OF MEMBERS WENT TO THE FACTORY IN CANBY OR. TO SEE HOW THEY MADE IT. TODAY THE CAR HAS WON 5 FIRST PLACE AWARD\S AT CCCA SANTIONED MEETS . LAST ONE WAS 2017 .

Henry J Kaiser's personal car has all white vinyl in it. I think it's a 888 trim

Yes, 888 would be custom trim. Okay, I did not know about the white boucle inserts, as I should have. Looks nice!
-
Thanks to all for a quick lesson on all vinyl. I too assumed that all Dragons were all vinyl because I thought that was the "DRagon vinyl" of the interior and roof. This happens with me when I read literature and then move on to study a different make and even era, and then try and recall factoids, so it is time to revisit what few documents I have left on the KF.
Didn't Collectible Auto recently come out with a 53 Dragon article?
-
February they had a nice article about Kaisers, August 2011 they had a Dragon feature.
-
I'll go buy the one on Dragons on amazon
-
THERE IS AN ALL VINYL DRAGON IN THE HEMMINGS MOTOR NEWS THAT IS LISTED FOR $44,900.00. 59445 miles, Looks like the same one that was auctioned at the Owosso Mi. Museum the antenna is on the passenger side, should be on the drivers side i believe. Maybe Jack Mueller might know. all i have seen its on the drivers side.
-
This is the same car. Its made its way to just a few miles from me...it was purchased by a local sports and exotic car reseller. The car was offered at Hershey last week as well for about $35K and I do not think it sold, but it did draw alot of interest. The interior is in very good condition and if not original, was well restored. Is it worth $35K...that's up to the buyer!
-
It should be "worth" $35,000, but I doubt it would sell for that. It looks like a nice car, though.
-
Dusty,
When You get Time shoot another Picture of Your Dash with the (Built Expressly for) badge on Glove Box...
Make a good update shot...
Again You & Your Family did a wonderful # One Job on interior.

I have still been wanting to find a Maroon Dragon that was at a National a Few Years back . We know what the Paint : Number would be, but what # for the Trim ?
See 5312 like Dusty's Green Bambu White Boucle, 5311 like Johnson's Green Bambu Lt. Green Boucle.
What Code Number for Maroon ?
