Car went out nicely, with wheels turning  ;)

The new owner will be in Kurtistown, on the Hilo side of the Island. He will join the forum and will for sure ask for help when needed! It will go on a tow truck as it does not run. Not much needed to make it run again...

The car was in Kamuela, (North of the Big Island) coming originally from WA.

Kaiser Forum / Towing a 1953 Kaiser from the rear out of the garage
« on: March 01, 2019, 08:00:39 PM »
Hello everyone,
A very basic question, coming back to my Kaiser after years of absence... Weird feeling!
I need to tow the car outside of the garage to check it out in the open.
Where should I attach a towing strap?
Thanks,
Christian

Kaiser Forum / Gas tank removal :(..
« on: July 26, 2012, 05:00:12 PM »
Bonjour!

Thanks for the very useful comments... I cleaned up the filter, pump and rubber lines (alcohol and patience was good enough). The diaphragm is in good shape and does not seem to react to alcohol at all. I guess it was changed at some point, as it looks good.

So, I have to bite the bullet and remove the gas tank and fuel lines to clean everything and eventually re-coat the interior of the tank. I found the needed products at the local marina boat supplies store. Was a good relief as shipping this king of stuff to Hawaii is both slow and expensive.

Before starting though, I would welcome any advice on the removal of the tank from those who did it. I found good information on the cleaning process on the web, but I need to get the tank out first!

Mahalo nui and aloha,
Christian

Kaiser Forum / Black goo in fuel pump and filter :(
« on: July 19, 2012, 09:14:54 PM »
Bonjour,

It has been a long time without working on my 53' Manhattan... Last time, the fuel pump was not doing too well (was more than a year ago), so I dismounted it this morning and found it full of an ugly black goo. Looked at the fuel filter and sure enough, it was full of it too!

I added some gas last time I fired up the engine... and it had 10% ethanol. Did not know it could be a problem. I guess it is.
- I had replaced a short hose (from pump to tank fuel line) by a nitrile  Weatherhead (H057) so it does not come from there.
- There are a couple of little old "rubber" hoses before and after the filter, in addition to the pump and the filter itself, but they look pretty inside.

Any suggestion/advice on the potential origin of the goo, either in the filter or the pump, or somewhere else?  Carburetor is clean, just slightly "sticky". As you will see from the pictures attached, the filter is really full of the goo, and the pump has a good bunch of it, but not everywhere.

Thanks and aloha from the Big Island,
Christian

Hi!

I could be interested in the knobs for the directional lights and shift lever knobs. If the wheel is ok, I could be interested too ;)

Aloha,
Chris in Hawaii
