Henry J & Allstate Forum / Anyone ever heard of this one?

Looks like two Henry Js in the picture.  Anyone know anything about it?

I just wanted to comment on how sad I was to learn of the loss of Jerry Laurin's early '47 Kaiser Special. Jerry is a good guy and seems to have had his share of hard luck in the last few years.  His Buckeye Maroon '47 Special was always fun to examine. I first met Jerry and saw the car at the KFOC National in Jefferson City in 1998. I remember attending Oshkosh in 2001 with my father. We were looking at Jerry's car and Steve Hermesch took us around and pointed out all the unique features on Jerry's early '47 which was parked right next to Rollie Potts' '47 -the second earliest Kaiser known to exist. It is very unfortunate that this piece of KF history is now history.

An unusual photo from the HAMB site. Two random Kaisers in this shot.

Can you spot them?

General Discussion / Another Kaiser spotted in a TV show
« on: January 26, 2013, 10:29:44 AM »
I was watching an episode of Adam-12 on Netflix last night. The episoded is called "I Feel Like a Fool, Malloy" from season 1 in 1968. As they arrive to foil a reported robbery attempt, you can clearly see a light blue 1953 Kaiser Manhattan parked across the street.

That show was shot at Universal Studios and I think they used that Kaiser as a prop car in several shows as the Internet Movie Car database shows a picture of one that looks a lot like it on the set of an episode of Andy Griffith. You can also recognize the house that was used in SteelTown (which was also the Munster's house and used in many "Movies Of The Week" in the '70s) and many familiar sets used on that show.

You can actually watch it now at

Car is visible at 11:44 (status bar shows 12:52 remaining)

Kaiser Forum / More Information on the '48 Kaiser Custom
« on: December 22, 2012, 09:51:48 PM »
Some of you may have seen the Kaiser body/data tag that was on ebay a few weeks ago. I noticed right away it was off a 1948 Kaiser Custom (model K482), a very rare car. The price was right and there were no bids so I decided to snatch it up.  Kaiserfrazerlibrary, you may be interested in this tag for historical data.
It's model K482, Body 5, Paint 101 (Onyx), Trim 221 (Maroon Broadcloth, Magenta Maroon IP), TR 1 (which means this '48 Custom was equipped with overdrive), RA 1 (4.27:1 rear axle), SCHED 119, ITEM NO 385, Body Number 2224

Interesting info. If you want the tag I will donate it to the library, otherwise I'll hang onto it but I don't really collect them.

General Discussion / Another movie with a Kaiser in it
« on: December 05, 2012, 06:05:43 PM »
The movie "Gun Crazy" was on TCM earlier today. One get-away scene includes interior (but no exterior) shots of a 1949/50 Kaiser. They even fire a shot through the back windshield at a police car in pursuit.

It even shows the female driver messing up the shift into second. I don't think a Kaiser would make a good get-away car!

Cars For Sale & Wanted / Nice looking '48 Frazer on ebay

Nice looking work on this one. And it's a real Manhattan, not a standard with Manhattan script added as we've seen numerous times.

Blue always looks good on the slab siders.
Hard to tell in the pictures but it almost looks like a Buick hood ornament on it.

General Discussion / Anyone know anything about this car?

Seems pretty unusual. A Manhattan with a vinyl top and leather upholstery. I had not ever heard of this one before. Does anyone know about it? A picture of the data tag would be beneficial.  It's a cool car.

Nice looking/workable car it seems -

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rare-1948-Frazer-4-door-sedan-/271073322865?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f1d3aa771

It appears to have all the Manhattan trim, steering wheel, chrome window frames etc. yet the ad lists the VIN as F485..... indicating a standard as opposed to a Manhattan.  In any case, I always liked that color combination and despite needing some chrome work done, the price seems right.

General Discussion / Off the beaten path... Chrysler...?
« on: October 05, 2012, 11:34:28 AM »
Hello old car experts.  This is question regarding a "Foreign" make but I'm thinking with all of the knowledge that visits this board, I may get answer. This pertains to a 1949 Chrysler Windsor with the fluid drive.  The fluid drive has the kickdown feature, same as the Borg-Warner overdrive used on our KF cars.  The kickdown switch on the Mopar is actually integrated into the throat of the carburettor. I have one where the switch is likely worn down. If I take it apart and clean it, the kickdown feature will work for a short while then quit. I think it's due to wear on the parts and they cannot make good contact. I've searched a couple of Mopar boards but have not found an answer regarding if there is a repro replacement or replacement parts for this. Anyone out in KF land know? Thanks.

Henry J & Allstate Forum / KF In the middle east
« on: October 01, 2012, 04:14:32 PM »
I was visiting my folks this week and I found a picture I had been looking for for a long time. It's a 1951 Henry J in Incirlik, Turkey. My brother took this picture for me back in December 1985 when his band was on a USO tour.

He said there were a lot of very nice 1956 - 58 Chevs and other cars there as the those countries would purchase the old dies from US makers and produce the cars there. This J looks as though there is no chrome on in it - black bumpers, hood ornament etc. No way to tell if it's a four or six cylinder.
It was likely produced in 1951 - I know a lot of KF cars shipped there so it's likely a restore.

Parts For Sale & Wanted / Can anyone ID these hubcaps?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NICE-KAISER-HUBCAPS-SET-WILLYS-FRAZER-HENRY-J-47-48-49-50-51-52-53-54-55-CHROME-/271066336103?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f1cd00b67&vxp=mtr

They're listed as Kaiser but of course, us KF folk know they are not. Anyone know what they are for?  Nice looking caps by the way.

Virginians, Hardtops, Convertibles, & Dragons / Dragon for sale on ebay

It looks nice, I really like that color, but I question whether the interior (at least the cloth part on the seats) and the lining in the trunk is actually original as the ad states. I don't recall ever seeing any like that but of course, I have not seen them all so I don't know. Any comments from those who do?
