6 VOLT COILS-- don't know if it's good?   Use an OHM METER connect the probes to each terminal. The resistance"" should read 1-43 to 1.58.."" if it reads ZERO it is shorted and NO GOOD or if it reads infinity resistance then it is bad

Kaiser Forum / BRAKES
« on: February 10, 2013, 12:37:53 PM »
Its happening to me and happened 3 years ago, the brakes freeze up on one or another of the wheels on the car. I have been using SILICONE FLUID and the cylinders keep corroding and gumming up. Now i found an article in AUTO RESTORERS magazine explaining the problem. as written there, the problem is the housing is cast iron and the piston aluminum and due to  low electrical conductive action it causes corrosion.

Kaiser Forum / 54's with rust
« on: July 20, 2011, 04:58:52 PM »
hi Kaiserkid, I had a 54 manhattan(purchased from Andy Schroyer in the 70's) it had had a canvas top originally and continental kit. when we took out the windshield to replace the rubber we found the same thing also the rear window was rotten. we had to bend a 18ga. sheet( formed like angle iron) slot one edge and weld it in in place of the rotted out window channel, a section at a time. also on 54 Manhattans around the bottom edge of the rREAR windows are prone to rust and must be attacked in the same manner, as the drip molding guides the rain and dirt behind the stainless panel and down to the lower window trim then stays there with the dirt.  Welcome rust!!

Kaiser Forum / exhaust manifold noise
« on: July 17, 2011, 05:54:55 PM »
I have a 54 manhattan, the engine has been overhauled and i have a ticking noise that is still there behind the carb. The engine has been torn down twice to find the tick, no luck > then on the 3dr go at it i saw carbon on the choke tube to the manifold and found the tube in the manifold to be loose and has a hole in it. Some years ago a member had the same problem and replaced the tube. the question is what size tube--and what metal and where to get it.

Willys Forum / rear end ratios
« on: April 03, 2011, 10:38:03 AM »
Need some help from our Willys friends. I have a 53 Kaiser manhattan I got from the San Francisco Bay area, It has been a puzzle . The car has been sitting since 1961 in a garage APART. The rear end tag reads W 05:11 AND HAS 8 leaves in the springs and the brake cables are 4 inches too long. Does the 5:11 mean it is a ratio of 5:11 or if you divide the 5 into 11 it indicates 4:64

Kaiser Forum / 1953 2 dr Kaiser
« on: March 19, 2011, 08:22:04 PM »
Hi, Need some input from members, I picked up the 53 Black 2 door 2 years ago . it had been sitting in a 1 car garage in the Oakland California hills since 1961 the speedo reads 56,000 I have a copy of the title signed by the original owner, He had had a heart attack trying to fix the engine.(he died later)  I got it non op licensed and then the fun began, the engine in it was an early 47 Frazer stickw/od. Got a Kaiser engine from Ed Ewing great , had a stick w od from a 53. In hooking up the spedo gear to the tran i was counting gears and checking the rear end ratio, the tag says W 50-11 and the park brake cable is WAY TOO LONG. the springs have 8 leaves 2 are thicker than normal. any one got any ideas??? and what ratio should be in the car to make it a long legged one for trips??    Dusty

General Discussion / service standards for 1952-1954
« on: January 24, 2011, 12:44:38 PM »
I have a booklet that was produced in 54-55by WILLYS MOTORS INC TOLEDO OHIO that includes 24 pages of specs. ie: everything on engine, fuel, exhaust, cooling, trans, clutch, suspension, axles, steering, brakes, wheels, frame, all electrical lube & torques, it is so complete that it starts with overall length of the car by year how much a trans weighs, all the specs on the engine. , a/l & delco #s on the electrical per year p/ns for starters per gen. dist. on and on . Has any one reproduced it?  I checked with Jim Betts and he never heard of it. I made a copy for Ed Ewing and its a bible for him rather than go from memory.

Well guys I worked with SMS to get the Bambu Boucle and the rest of our vinyls and they turned out pretty darn good, ask jim betts, bob jordan and now I need some real help as the Jaquard machinery is being re tooled to do the 53 LUXURA OR THE 54 LAMAR CLOTH MATERIAL it should be ready after the first of the year.  Now comes the problem there were a lot more 53s with the longer loop that was originally wool with a rayon wrap and double air twist to it , or do we go with the 54 short loop of wool and no rayon wrap. I prefer the 54 as the loops didn't take unwanted sets spoiling the smooth look. I have been working with USA and Woolmark of london and their sub in Perth Australia so do you have any sugestions???
