Willys Forum / Re: Aero shock absorbers

For my 54 Eagle I picked a Monroe 33121 based on the end attachments, stroke and overall length for the front. The rears are the 31094 as mentioned.

I agree. You will be suprised at how available parts are, except for sheet metal in the back ....
Good luck!

Not realizing that there are none in stock I would support this. I would only need one set though, not 30!

General Discussion / Re: Under hood standards
« on: July 05, 2012, 12:18:17 PM »
This discussion is driving me crazy. The reason I joined was to have access to information to correctly restore my Willys Aero. For my Corvette the National Corvette Restorers Society has a booklet that provides guidance on finishes (flat, semi gloss, gloss, black zinc, cad, aluminum, natural, ... fastener head markings, etc) When I am going to the work of blasting the part and refinishing it, why not make it right.

To address the original versus aftermarket question, it is a simple matter to have deducts for originality and deducts for condition leading to a final score.

I am very grateful for Joe Frazers effort to give us this information. As I offered when I joined the group, if anyone wants help to pull this together I am willing to help - I just cannot wait forty years for it.

Willys Forum / Aero Quarter Panel Replacement
« on: February 23, 2012, 01:38:27 PM »
The question is when doing a total quarter panel replacement on an Aero, how does the top edge get welded? Looks like a long reach spot welding gun must have been used at the factory.

I could use any ideas on how to fabricate new trim pieces for the quarter panel peak and rear edge on an Aero. Thanks!

Do you live where it is warm? I just started storing my toys.

Our Oreilley's has all their hoses mounted on a board in the back room. It took no time to find the right bends for a 226, some trimming required for length.

Is one of these mats close enough for the Willys Aero front?

Chris, I am afraid I need to confiscate your 54 wheel covers for my 54!

For repo parts the rocker outer would be a hit, also the front grille surrounds. The rocker could be generic and we could trim for door opening length and end treatment .
The front floor rubber mat would be more of a challenge.

Willys Forum / Restoring Duct Work
« on: January 23, 2011, 11:13:31 AM »
There are two ducts on the Aero that appear to be made of rigid, thick tar paper. These are extremely brittle. Has anyone hade experience restoring these? Do they take well to heat to be reshaped. What would you use to repair - fiberglass?, bondo, ...

Any suggestions would be wonderful.

9 inch by 2 inch was the size on mine. I found linings on ebay - check Nash, Hudson or Studebaker applications or the Postal Jeep. Good Luck
