SMS sells the material, and on some cars, can offer the door panels already made up, but they are not cheap. Yet, they will be made as original with the correct material. So, if you are doing a show car, might be the way to go.

General Discussion / Re: McPherson College Car Show!

That is a great program, Wish they had that when I got out of high school, I would be restoring these cars for a living, instead as a hobby, haha. Jay Leno donated to help get the program started. Our Local Studebaker chapter just donated money as a scholarship to the McPherson college for a student in the "rats" ( Restoration Automotive Technical School ) McPherson college is just North west of Wichita Kansas.

Just curious, about the 2nd part, Who do I contact about getting one? thanks.

Haha, If I die before my wife, she will kill me. haha, Seriously, that brought up something I am doing. I have a bunch of NOS parts for a few Studebakers ( I'm collecting for my 63 Champ restration ). I just recently took pictures of all the parts, and listed them. My wife , not being a car nut, wouldn't really know what they are or there worth. So, my list includes the parts number ect, so, she can put all the parts on ebay, knowing what they are. I also use the list to know what I have, and what parts I still need, Hopefully nothing will happen to me, but my wife will be able to get a decent price for the parts, plus club members who need the stuff will get a chance to get it. Since I am only 50, I plan on being around for another 50. haha

Kaiser Forum / Re: Getting my 1953 Kaiser Manhattan started.
« on: October 27, 2012, 07:01:59 AM »
When I bought my 58 Studebaker, it wouldn't start for nothing, finally, I found out that mice had a home built in the exhaust, so it wasn't getting air thru, and thats why it wouldn't start. Funny things like that happen when  a car sits for years. I think the other post are more likely, but blow some air thru the exhaust and make sure it is open. On this i=one, I just drilled a few holes in the pipes ( they needed replaced anyway), and then it started right up, hehe. Please let us know what the problem was, I'm still learning too.

There is a aution invovling over 200 cars in Jane Mo, on the 71 just before Arkansas. The autin is this coming Saturday, the 28th of April. I went to see what was there, The 53 Kaiser Manhattan had floor rust, and needed alot of tlc or great parts car, but was mostly complete. It has been sitting for a long tine, automatic, has radio. The 54 is a special, with maroon top, off white body, better then the 53, but still needs restored, seemed to have solid floors, tail lights are busted up. I'll try to get a few photos downloaded later if I can. There are alot of 40's 50's 60's stuff there. IF anyone needs parts off one, let me know, I may buy one and send you the parts you need for the price of the car, please let me know, I am not selling, just passing the info. thanks,

Kaiser Forum / Re: clock repair
« on: March 22, 2012, 08:15:44 PM »
I have fixed a few of my old car clocks. There is a spring that winds down every few minutes, then, the contacts hit and makes the contact, and throws the spring back. After years, the points need cleaning. Take the clock out, then the back cover off, and file the points with a nail files, or fine file, just like the points in the ignition. That is almost always the only thing you need to do. Note, there is always a chance it could be something else, but in my experience, that is all it has taken for me to get my Studebaker clocks working. I have not gotten around to doing my 53 Manhattan yet, but, I am sure it will be just as easy. Best of luck.

I have enjoyed this post. I always thought the Dragon was a cool car, although it really is a over priced Manhattan, I'd still love to have one. I looked at the rooster, and the eraliest one known for 53 ( outside the show cars x ) is body #15, yet, the Onxy one in Mo, is # 14, just thought that was interesting. Any idea what the blue one in Ill, number is? thayt one I have thought about getting.  The only complaint I have with this post, is when I clicked on Eskimo, and clicked on the game link, now my daughter wants on my computer, haha, Great post, love hearing about these wonderful Willow run Automobiles.

Kaiser Forum / Re: standard vs. overdrive transmission
« on: March 08, 2012, 04:58:51 PM »
Even if it doesn't have overdrive, since he is making a wiring harness, I would have the extra wires for the overdrive. I would suspect the harness would have had them anyway, but not sure. If you have the harness made with the wires, and later decide to add overdrive, it would be great to have the wires. The fuel milage you get with overdrive may save you enough to have it added. Of course that will depend on how much you use the car, as many people that own cars of these age only drive them on a nice summer saturday ect. If you drive the car alot, the overdrive will save on fuel, which with todays prices, may be alot of savings, Hence my advice, get the wiring harness made for it. If you don't have overdrive, the 2 (?) small wires, will not be in the way. Hope this helps you. Best of luck

WOW, I love hearing the untold stories from people behind the scenes. Perhaps she will be able to tell a few " the rest of the stories" As Pual Harvey would say. Looking forward to hearing what you can learn from her. I wonder if She has any photos of her at the factory, or driving Henry Kaiser.

Parts For Sale & Wanted / Re: 51 Frazer shifter knob
« on: January 28, 2012, 06:28:50 PM »
Thanks for the information. The one I am looking for is for a Manhattan Green car with brown leather interior ( ? ). The car actually isn't mine, but a friends, he told me it crumbled in his hand a few weeks ago, so I am trying to find one for him. He has the four door hardtop. Anyone have one of the earlier ones for a 48 I can get? The actual with the chrome ring around it would be best, but for now one that works is better then nothing.

Parts For Sale & Wanted / 51 Frazer shifter knob
« on: January 28, 2012, 01:24:33 PM »
I am loooking for a shifter knob for a 51 Frazer. Does anyone have any idea what else woud work? I have seen some knobs made for post war Studebakers and other products, but don't know if the tread and size are the same. I am open to anything that would fit and ook good IF I can't find a NOS or replacement for the 51. Just curious, is this something others have needed and perhaps can be made for the manufacturing fund?
